About The Position

At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight! Under close supervision, Technician interns support Kent Machine Shop operations while developing foundational knowledge of manufacturing and machining processes. Participates in structured training across tool crib operations and manual machining. Completes assigned projects that demonstrate understanding of machining fundamentals, quality standards, and manufacturing best practices. Does not independently operate machines but learns set-up procedures, tooling selection, blueprint interpretation, and basic machining principles through hands-on training and observation.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
  • Currently pursuing relevant technical degree/certification in machining, manufacturing, or related field
  • Available to work full time while not concurrently enrolled in coursework.
  • Good understanding of basic electronic theory – voltage, resistance, current
  • Basic familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc)
  • Ability to follow written assembly procedures
  • Ability to learn new skills quickly
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Attention to detail and desire for continuous improvement
  • Ability to thrive as a member of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Complete structured on-the-job training (OJT) in tool crib operations and manual machining under mentor guidance.
  • Support daily shop operations including tool management, inventory tasks, and 5S activities.
  • Complete a 5S or continuous improvement project that benefits shop operations
  • Learn to interpret basic engineering drawings and understand fundamental GD&T concepts
  • Develop understanding of machining processes, tooling applications, and quality inspection methods
  • Document learning through detailed run histories and process observations
  • Deliver presentation summarizing internship projects and key lessons learned.
  • Follow all safety, quality, and company policies while demonstrating Blue Origin's Leadership Principles
