There are over 150 employees in Facilities, including Project Managers, Energy and Commissioning Specialists, Mechanical and Electrical Engineers, Architects, and space Planners. The facilities capital and operating expenditures are in the range of $100M for the University’s $2.0 billion assets under management. The 20-year Capital spending plan envisions $4.0 billion of new investment highlighted by uOttawa launch of project Top Shelf, a $300 million capital investment to build a new facility for the Faculty of Health Sciences at uOttawa’s River Campus, as well as a tower at the Roger Guidon campus to house uOttawa’s new Advanced Medical Research Center (AMRC). Maintains Power Plant (PLC/DSC) and campus system equipment and control elements in good condition, including ventilation, heating, air conditioning, lighting, classrooms and laboratories, as well as energy-use optimization and other matters handled by the technician’s section. Ensures operations of Power Plant 24/7 monitoring and alarm system and building graphic interface web pages. Compensation is determined in accordance with Collective Agreement 772B. The salary range for this position is $36,91 to $45,33 per hour. Once hired, your continuous years of service at the University of Ottawa, your skills along with the attainment of certain certifications, may allow you to earn up to $49,43 per hour (based on the 2025 salary scale).   • Working under the supervisor and the team lead, perform a variety of preventive and corrective tasks related to repairs, minor renovations, and modernization and maintenance of facility digital and pneumatic automated systems.
  • Coordinate repair, replacement, verification and certification of remote control systems with clients and staff, for daily facility operations.
  • Perform set-up of complex systems or equipment.
  • Analyze electrical equipment to maximize effectiveness and economical operations and proposes necessary corrective measures to the engineering and other sections.
  • Maintain building fibre optic and internal communication networks.
  • Analyze, maintain and verify operation of control and programming systems, for energy efficiency, quality assurance and other projects.
  • Identify and addresses causes of system or complex equipment failure.
  • Handle data entry in the work order management software for statistical and billing purposes.
  • Share knowledge and expertise with members of the Facilities team, as well as faculties and other services.
  • College diploma in industrial electronics, instrumentation or building services
  • Mastery of software for programming automatic control systems and alarms, of ABB and DELTA
  • Knowledge and experience related to maintenance software, spreadsheets, word processing, PowerPoint and other software
  • Knowledge and experience related to various municipal, provincial and federal codes as well as the Ontario Health and Safety Act and other applicable laws and regulations
  • Valid driver’s licence
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills
