Technician III, Process/Utility Maintenance

ModernaTXMarlborough, MA
Onsite

About The Position

The Role: Joining Moderna means advancing mRNA science to transform medicine. Work with exceptional global teams on a broad pipeline and build a career that makes a real difference for patients. Moderna is strengthening its presence in Marlborough, Massachusetts, home to a state-of-the-art GMP facility supporting individualized therapy (INT) clinical-to-commercial manufacturing. Our Marlborough campus provides end-to-end capabilities—from buffer preparation through drug substance and drug product manufacturing—leveraging automation, robotics, and digital tools to enable robust, scalable operations across our mRNA portfolio. In this role, you will serve as a critical on-site technical expert supporting evening shift manufacturing operations within a GMP environment. You will independently maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize complex facility and process equipment, ensuring operational continuity and regulatory compliance. Working at the intersection of engineering, digital systems, and advanced manufacturing, you will also engage with evolving technologies—including data-driven maintenance and Generative AI-enabled insights—to enhance equipment reliability and performance. Here's What You'll Do: Independently perform preventive and corrective maintenance across manufacturing, utility, and facility systems in a GMP pharmaceutical environment. Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve issues on critical process equipment in real time to minimize downtime and ensure continuity of operations. Execute and document maintenance activities within Maximo, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and data integrity. Support equipment calibration, validation, and commissioning activities, contributing to lifecycle management and regulatory readiness. Provide first-line technical support for production-critical systems, resolving issues directly and escalating complex challenges when required. Oversee and perform repairs and maintenance tasks with a high degree of autonomy and technical judgment. Coordinate and prioritize maintenance activities to ensure timely execution with minimal disruption to manufacturing operations. Develop, refine, and implement maintenance procedures and protocols to enhance system performance, reliability, and longevity. Monitor and manage maintenance inventory, ensuring availability of critical spare parts, tools, and supplies. Train and mentor junior technicians, fostering technical capability, adherence to GMP standards, and a strong safety culture. Ensure full compliance with safety regulations and proactively promote a culture of safety and accountability across all maintenance activities. Operate fully on-site as part of a hands-on, evening shift team supporting continuous manufacturing operations (this role is not eligible for remote work). Take on additional responsibilities as required to support site operations and evolving business needs. The key Moderna Mindsets you’ll need to succeed in the role: “We act with urgency; Action today compounds the lives saved tomorrow.” “We behave like owners. The solutions we’re building go beyond any job description.”
