About The Position

Pagosa Springs Medical Center (PSMC) is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Sterile Processing Technician II to join our Surgical Services team. This role is responsible for the cleaning, decontamination, sterilization, and preparation of surgical instruments and equipment, ensuring that operating rooms are properly supplied and ready for procedures. The Technician II plays a critical role in maintaining patient safety and surgical efficiency by ensuring all instruments meet strict sterilization and quality standards. The ideal candidate is organized, safety-focused, and experienced in sterile processing workflows within a healthcare environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience as a Sterile Processing Technician required
  • Current AHA BLS certification required
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Knowledge of sterilization processes and infection control standards
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-demand environment
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Basic computer skills

Nice To Haves

  • CSPD or CRCST certification strongly preferred (not required)
  • CIS certification preferred

Responsibilities

  • Clean, decontaminate, disinfect, and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment
  • Inspect instruments for cleanliness, functionality, and defects
  • Assemble trays, case carts, and surgical sets according to preference lists
  • Label and track sterilized items appropriately
  • Prepare and distribute surgical case carts and instrumentation
  • Ensure operating rooms are adequately supplied for procedures
  • Maintain appropriate PAR levels for surgical instruments and supplies
  • Operate sterilization equipment in accordance with manufacturer guidelines
  • Monitor and document sterilization processes using biological, chemical, and physical indicators
  • Perform routine quality control and testing to ensure equipment performance
  • Receive, stock, and manage inventory of sterile processing supplies
  • Maintain organized and clean work areas
  • Assist with inventory tracking and replenishment
  • Follow infection prevention and standard precautions at all times
  • Adhere to safety procedures when handling equipment and chemicals
  • Maintain compliance with organizational policies and regulatory standards
  • Communicate effectively with surgical staff and team members
  • Assist with training and onboarding of new staff as needed
  • Support continuous improvement and quality initiatives
