About The Position

As a Technician II with CSA Group, you will conduct a wide range of test procedures, accurately obtain and record data, interpret results, and perform R&D projects that are not standardized. The Technician assembles and disassembles test samples and may make modifications to experimental set-ups and troubleshoot malfunctions. You will also maintain and initiate direct client contact to provide and ask for information. You play a key role in providing ongoing feedback to Managers and Certifiers regarding suggested modifications to experimental apparatus and / or equipment being developed. You may also assist in work outside the laboratories as required and will Process paperwork projects where no engineering is involved.

Requirements

  • Associates degree in Engineering Technology or Technical Certificate or equivalent education and experience
  • 5-8 years of related experience
  • Strong knowledge in all national / international standards through research of standards, documentation, bulletins and technical articles in area of specialty
  • Practical knowledge of working with test and measurement instruments and equipment, such as: oscilloscope, power supplies, multi meters, power analyzers and chart recorders; operation of machines such as drills, table saw, band saw, bending machines
  • Thorough knowledge of Standards and testing procedures
  • Thorough knowledge of CSA certification options, programs and services applicable to a variety of equipment
  • Must be able to read, interpret and develop engineering drawings and test data
  • Must have some knowledge of Laboratory instrumentation, including operating principles and calibration procedures, as well as general Laboratory procedures
  • Ability to manage difficult or unusual projects simultaneously and meet promised delivery dates
  • Must be team-oriented with good interpersonal skills and abilities to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Must be self-motivated and client-service oriented
  • Demonstrated systematic problem-solving ability
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, prioritize, follow-through and evaluate assigned functions and duties
  • Demonstrated ability to work with some supervision.
  • Good communication skills and ability to provide feedback to less experienced personnel when needed

  • Technical report writing
  • Computer proficiency (Word processing, Microsoft Word, Excel); keyboarding
  • Use of various lab equipment, instruments and tools
  • Often required to move and lift heavy samples and test equipment within OHS’s JHA’s requirements
  • Must be willing to travel as needed
  • Concentration required to work with electricity and conduct testing

Responsibilities

  • Assumes total responsibility for the completion of assigned projects within negotiated time and cost schedules.
  • Conducts a wide range of test procedures on sample equipment to the applicable standards and interprets results of the test.
  • Performs tests and calculations, compiles data and summarizes test results into test reports and checklists.
  • Verifies calculations are consistent with results of measurements.
  • Assembles and disassembles test samples, hooks-up laboratory test equipment in preparation for testing; operates most laboratory test equipment without supervision.
  • Records technical data, draft reports, writes product descriptions.
  • Performs mathematical calculations required to summarize test results.
  • Relates test results to product specifications.
  • Acts as a liaison with other departments as required by supervisor.
  • Notes and records substandard features of products which may appear before or during the tests and refer them to PGM, Lab Manager or Certifier.
  • Maintains good housekeeping of tools, equipment and work area following tests and carry out assigned laboratory clean-up duties.
  • Responsible for follow-up for any non-conformances as a result of calibration, with guidance from supervisor.
  • Responsible for the integrity of customer samples while in the lab as per DQDs.
  • Interacts with jobholder / certifier to plan activities, exchange information, review and approve lab reports and certification records.
  • Maintains and initiates direct certifier and client contact to provide information and answer questions or obtain more product information.
  • Interprets the client's needs and provides general and specific information about the certification process or status of an application to assist the jobholder and improve overall customer service and satisfaction.
  • Provides certifier / client with detailed interpretation of test results and construction evaluation and how it applies to the status of their certification.
  • May make field trips and assist in work outside the laboratories as required.
