About The Position

The Technician I position at ARUP Laboratories is an entry-level role focused on providing both technical and non-technical laboratory services. The technician will undergo training to handle data, process specimens, perform select laboratory tests, and maintain quality control and equipment. This role is essential in supporting the laboratory's operations and ensuring accurate and timely results for patient care.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Some college level courses in biology or related life sciences (preferred)
  • Laboratory experience (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Understand appropriate specimen collection, handling, and transport per departmental procedures.
  • Process, triage, route, and store specimens according to established departmental procedures.
  • Evaluate specimens for acceptability and follow appropriate procedures for specimens that do not meet acceptance criteria.
  • Prepare, organize, and review specimens for run set up according to departmental procedures.
  • Prepare reagents according to laboratory requirements as allowed by regulatory guidelines.
  • Perform selected tests as allowed by regulatory guidelines.
  • Perform and document quality control and assist with equipment maintenance within predetermined parameters.
  • Transcribe or transmit results previously validated by a Technologist.
  • Answer telephone calls in a timely and courteous manner, providing verified test results to authenticated individuals.
  • Be proficient in the use of laboratory computer applications/programs.
  • Document cleaning and maintenance of work area and equipment as required.
  • Stock and maintain supplies and document all required information.
  • Attend laboratory meetings and in-services as required.
  • Remain informed of all relevant process and procedure changes.
  • Be productive in all areas for which competency has been achieved.
  • Other duties as assigned.
