About The Position

Texas A&M’s Chemistry Department is looking for a Technician I who will support the Teaching Laboratory Program by assisting in the planning and supervision of technical operations. This role also provides training and oversight for student workers involved in the preparation and distribution of chemicals.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two years of related experience.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares, updates, and maintains chemical preparation records and determines the required quantities for laboratory experiments.
  • Coordinates student workers and oversees the preparation of standardized chemical solutions and mixtures for upcoming laboratory activities.
  • Maintains inventory of laboratory chemicals, supplies, and standard items, and coordinates student workers to ensure laboratories remain stocked with essential materials and chemicals.
  • Assists in determining specifications and needs for purchasing chemicals for teaching laboratories.
  • Assists in preparing and delivering chemical demonstrations and supports the maintenance, operation, and management of laboratory equipment and instruments.
  • Assists in securing and closing laboratory facilities at the end of classes.
  • Examines chemical preparation areas for potential hazards and recommends appropriate corrective actions.
  • Assists with new employee safety orientation and provides Hazard Communication training for student workers.
  • Assists with hazardous waste consolidation, labeling, segregation, and disposal for teaching laboratories and departmental research groups, ensuring all processes meet federal, state, and university regulations.
  • Coordinates closely with the Technical Lab Coordinator and University Safety Officer and may transport placarded hazardous materials as part of compliant waste‑handling operations.
