About The Position

The Technician I is a full-time grant funded position within the Medical Physiology Department at Texas A&M University Health Science Center. This role, under general supervision, involves assisting in planning research on support laboratory methods and techniques, carrying out procedures, and recording results for a series of closely controlled experiments.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two years of laboratory, research, or related experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in science field.
  • Ability to perform experiments on laboratory mice and rats.
  • Experience in immunohistochemistry and microscopy.
  • Tissue collection and processing.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts experiments and technical procedures.
  • Assist with planning and supervising technical operations.
  • Make complex chemical and physicals analyses which, although they follow standard procedures and test, may require the exercise of some ingenuity and improvisation.
  • Independently manage genetically engineered rodent colonies.
  • Performs mouse genotyping.
  • Maintains animal inventory.
  • Assist co-workers with research studies, experiments and assays including collection of data, preparation of solutions, setup, and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
  • Tissue collection and processing including immunohistochemistry and microscopy.
  • Keep detailed records of observations, measurements, and data.
  • Effectively use statistical software for routine data analysis.
  • Maintain laboratory inventories and place laboratory orders.
  • General laboratory maintenance and cleanliness.
