About The Position

The Technician I is a full-time grant funded position within the Medical Physiology department at Texas A&M University Health Science Center. This role involves assisting in planning research on support laboratory methods and techniques, carrying out procedures, and recording results for a series of closely controlled experiments, all under general supervision. Future employment in this position may be contingent upon continued grant funding.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Two years of laboratory, research, or related experience

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in science field
  • Ability to perform experiments on laboratory mice and rats
  • Experience in immunohistochemistry and microscopy
  • Tissue collection and processing
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing

Responsibilities

  • Conducts experiments and technical procedures
  • Assist with planning and supervising technical operations
  • Make complex chemical and physicals analyses which, although they follow standard procedures and test, may require the exercise of some ingenuity and improvisation
  • Independently manage genetically engineered rodent colonies
  • Performs mouse genotyping
  • Maintains animal inventory
  • Assist co-workers with research studies, experiments and assays including collection of data, preparation of solutions, setup, and maintenance of laboratory equipment
  • Tissue collection and processing including immunohistochemistry and microscopy
  • Keep detailed records of observations, measurements, and data
  • Effectively use statistical software for routine data analysis
  • Maintain laboratory inventories and place laboratory orders
  • General laboratory maintenance and cleanliness
