Summary Responsible for the reception, and distribution of off-air, satellite etc. programming to the Outside Plant. This includes the installation, construction, operations and repair of all equipment associated with the headend and signal distribution network.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong Headend, RF, IP, Optical and MPEG engineering and computer related skills necessary.
  • Ability to solve network problems or infrastructure issues and manage performance and capacity issues is required.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions.
  • Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
  • Valid driver's license with satisfactory driving record within Company required standards.
  • Ability to accurately measure distances, using tapes or other measuring devices.
  • Ability to adhere to Local, Federal regulations and Company policies.
  • Ability to differentiate between different sizes and colors of wires.
  • Ability to drive a company vehicle in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Ability to make cable connections in tight spaces by bending, reaching, twisting.
  • Ability to operate appropriate computer or test equipment associated with position.
  • Ability to perform job from high places (ie: on ladder working on overhead cabling)
  • Ability to prioritize and organize effectively.
  • Ability to use the following hand tools: electric drills, hammers, wrenches, screwdrivers, RF strippers, crimpers etc.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Ability to work with small components and wires to make cable connections.
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics and electronics.
  • Ability to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.
  • Ability to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Ability to sit and talk or hear.
  • Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and depth perception.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor video and audio quality of services delivered on the forward and return spectrum (analog – digital – IP).
  • Perform daily check of RF Levels and Headend alignment.
  • Verify video and audio levels for satellite and stereo processing equipment.
  • Monitor Commercial Insertion equipment for performance as needed.
  • Perform status monitoring of RF and data performance, further report and/or repair discrepancies.
  • Responsible for ISP wiring, balancing and testing of node splits and/or node swaps due to capacity or node replacement
  • Work with OSP Technician for node optimization and balancing of RF/light levels
  • Responsible for all Headend/Hub locations within region
  • Optical Transmitter and Receiver installation, connection and configuration
  • Scoping, cleaning and testing of fiber jumpers
  • Rack and stack of new equipment and associated cabling
  • Perform DC power and FAP connections for equipment within rack
  • Ability to crimp CAT6 ends with T568B wiring code
  • Working knowledge of test equipment such as, Spectrum Analyzer, OSA, Optical Light Meter, OTDR, RF signal meter, and MPEG Analyzer
  • Understanding of commonly used modulation schemes such as QAM, QPSK, and OFDM
  • Understanding of CWDM and DWDM
  • On call as required via on call rotation
  • Night work as required to perform maintenances and cutovers
  • Assist the supervisor with work flow, training of new Technicians, and quality assurance
  • Perform other tasks assigned by Supervisor
