Job Summary: The Fiber Technician II is responsible for installation, troubleshooting, terminating, splicing, and testing of fiber optic cables in order to provide quality service for customers, using specialized tools and test equipment. Responsibilities include maintaining daily contact with dispatch regarding service problems, assignments concerning splicing notes, and field information. Maintain daily contact with Network/Maintenance Technicians and Construction Department. The Fiber Technician II assists and collaborates with the Supervisor, Fiber Splicing with scheduling fiber splicing projects, tracking compliance to schedule, and coordinating fiber maintenance activity with the NOC and/or the end user.

Requirements

  • AS degree in a relevant engineering or technology field is desired. Other candidates with a strong technical background and substantial industry or military experience will be considered.
  • 5 or more years of experience in the telecommunications industry
  • 3 or more years of experience with fiber construction and installation
  • Work aloft up to 50’ in a bucket truck, ladder, or climb utility poles
  • Work in confined spaces (manholes, vaults, etc.)
  • Distinguish between different colors
  • Able and willing to work outdoors and in inclement weather
  • Ability to work independently and deal tactfully and effectively with the public and staff
  • Ability to lift and carry 75 pounds
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Demonstrated strong problem solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to multitask and manage multiple projects simultaneously
