About The Position

SUMMARY: Sets-up and operates/runs various testing frames and testing programs, and performs inspections, tests, and gathers data on composite core, conductor, hardware, etc. for the development of new tests or procedures, product characterization, or to determine conformance to accepted specifications. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Perform testing on various samples of core, conductor, tools, and equipment for quality and for experimental purposes. Observes and pays attention to machine and core in order to detect and prevent possible malfunctions (audible and visual). Responsible for alerting supervisors of anything unusual. Read and interpret gauges, record measurements and observations, and accurately complete process logs according to specifications. Sets up and operates various test machines. Reviews project instructions and blueprints to ascertain test specifications, procedures, objectives, test equipment, nature of technical problem, and possible solutions such as part redesigns, substitution of materials or parts, or rearrangement of parts or subassemblies. Analyzes indicated and calculated results in relation to design or rated specifications and objectives and modifies or adjusts equipment, components, or assemblies under engineering direction to meet specifications. Responsible for completing test programs. Manage samples and acquisition of materials for tests and experiments. Assist with the fabrication of new equipment, tools, parts, and machinery for testing. Assist with the design of experiments for research and new test programs. Assist with the design of parts, products, and equipment by providing practical feedback. Remove product, machine attachments, and waste materials from machinery. Prepare conductor and core samples for various tests and experiments. Assist with the implementation of new processes or procedures. Assist with training of personnel for new processes or procedures produced by engineering. Prepare work instructions for new or updated methods and procedures. Prepare reports for results and findings from tests and experiments. Organizes data and records in Excel spreadsheets. Manage the lab space and maintain good work place organization and housekeeping. Clean test fixtures. Use of small/large hand tools as required. Must have the ability to properly document all work on appropriate forms. Comply with safety and operating policies and procedures regarding equipment, materials, and the finished product. Maintain a safe work environment; thoroughly read and understand the material safety data sheets (SDS) for proper handling of materials, follow operating and maintenance instructions for tools and machinery, and utilize relevant manuals for proper operating procedures. Maintaining a lab notebook if required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to speak and read English effectively.
  • Good technical skills and mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to read and interpret gauges and record measurements.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, material safety data sheets (SDS), operating and maintenance instructions, and any relevant manuals.
  • Ability to stoop and bend.
  • Ability to stand for 8-10 hour shift.
  • Use of hands and arms to lift, handle, pour, clean, install, and position materials and tools/machinery, and to otherwise manipulate things.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Knowledge of raw materials and handling.
  • Requires understanding of basic computer skills and programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel, along with operational knowledge of testing equipment.
  • Good oral and written communications skills.
  • Ability to take instructions and learn new processes and procedures.
  • Ability to think independently and to innovate.
  • Ability to work safely.
  • Ability to work in a group as well as independently.
