The Boiler Technician is responsible for monitoring pressure gauges, flow meters, thermometers, and other measurement devices or equipment. The role involves performing water sampling and treatment, adjusting controls to maintain specified settings such as temperature, steam pressure, air pressure, and water pressure. The technician will operate valves to control heat, steam, water, chemical flow, and other mixes, as well as install, maintain, and repair electro-pneumatic valves and direct control devices related to boiler systems. Additionally, the technician will inspect and test systems to verify compliance with specifications and detect malfunctions. Other responsibilities include checking fluid levels on gearboxes, lubricating bearings, replacing filters, and performing maintenance actions following established checklists. The technician must read complex blueprints, piping, sketches, and schematics, recognize and diagnose mechanical failures, and perform timely repairs and routine maintenance, including preventive maintenance on equipment. The role also requires dealing with emergency and unplanned problems and repairs, using power tools, and performing pipe repairs. Welding and fabrication skills are preferred.
