The spirit of DIY and customization runs throughout every element of a Slate, because people should have control over how their trucks look, feel, and represent them. | WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR The Boiler Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of steam plant equipment, including coal and oil-fired boilers, pumps, motors, and reverse osmosis systems. This role ensures compliance with Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) standards and supports the maintenance and operation of heating systems in state facilities. Crew F/G | 6:00 PM – 6:00 AM | Rotating 12-hour night shifts

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification in boiler operation preferred.
  • Valid boiler operator license or certification as required by local/state regulations.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience operating industrial boilers
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems, steam generation, and thermal energy management.
  • Familiarity with automated control systems and Building Management Systems (BMS).
  • Specialized knowledge of steam plant operations and boiler systems.
  • Ability to perform water tests and maintain boiler chemistry.
  • Must obtain Facility Operator 3rd Class certification within 12 months of employment.
  • Ability to work independently and make decisions under pressure.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, monitor, and maintain high-pressure and low-pressure boilers used in EV production and facility operations.
  • Conduct routine inspections and performance checks to ensure optimal boiler efficiency and safety.
  • Monitor gauges, meters, and control systems to detect and troubleshoot issues.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on boiler systems, pumps, valves, and related equipment.
  • Maintain accurate logs of boiler performance, maintenance activities, and safety checks.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations, including emissions standards.
  • Collaborate with engineering and maintenance teams to support thermal systems used in battery production and climate control.
  • Respond to emergency situations and alarms promptly and effectively.
  • Assist in energy optimization initiatives and sustainability efforts.
  • Make periodic inspections of boiler fires and operating conditions.
  • Ensure steam plant operations meet safety and environmental standards.
  • Take periodic readings and maintain logs per IDEM requirements.
  • Maintain water levels in salt bins and operate reverse osmosis machines.
  • Assist in annual boiler overhaul, pump repairs, and motor servicing.
  • Train new employees on steam plant duties and safety protocols.
  • Adjust stoker feeders and dampers for coal boilers; monitor oil-fired boiler settings.
  • Respond to emergency situations and make operational decisions as needed.
