This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities. As part of a hardworking team of specialists, technicians, and engineers, you will be responsible for Additive Manufacturing machine set up, operation, monitoring and build to build change over as well as some preventive maintenance. These machine and processing equipment support Blue Origin’s various spaceflight systems. You will monitor and record operational information such as functional issues related to laser melt pool, material consumption rates, material inventory, build start and completion dates. You will share in the team’s impact on all aspects of Additive Manufactured spaceflight and supporting hardware, continuous improvement, automation, and process development. The Additive Manufacturing (AM) Engineering Technician position is very hands-on, offers critical insight into the daily AM machine/equipment functions that may not be well-understood by AM Programmers, AM Applications, and/or the management team. Requirements

  • 3+ years hands on Metallic Additive Manufacturing production experience.
  • Associates degree in applicable technical discipline from an accredited school or institution: Mechanical, Manufacturing Technology, Electromechanical, Optics, Lasers, Machining, etc.
  • 3+ years manufacturing experience in an advanced technology operations environment.
  • Proven long term success within previous employment with a work history greater than 2 years.
  • Proven your ability to operate/work with complex processes and equipment including but limited to precision medical equipment, Robotics equipment and/or Metallic Additive Manufacturing (AM) machines.
  • Ability to work with complex software interfaces to ensure the highest fidelity information for our internal and external customers.
  • An attitude that insists on the highest standards: quality, attention-to-detail, and dedication to the rigors necessary to pursue of human-space-flight goals.
  • Ability to show technical process thinking, an eye for process improvement and demonstrated ability to adhere to schedule constraints.
  • Proficiency with computers, including Microsoft Office

Responsibilities

  • Operate machinery in a safe manner, including PIT equipment, overhead cranes, printers and sieves that support different alloys.
  • Firm understanding of work instructions and applying proper documentation to each work order.
  • Review and understand control media as it applies to work orders, referencing and documenting as needed through out shift.
  • Interface with a variety of stakeholders from within Additive including; programmers, schedules, machinist and technicians across multiple work centers.
  • Position has a high degree of necessary physical mobility. Including climbing stairs, ladders and other lift devices.
  • Position requires long periods of standing and covering long distances between work centers.
  • Maintain a healthy, clean and organized work area.
  • Support department initiatives on safety, 5S, continuous improvement and FOD control.
  • Wear PAPR and PPE while on shift.
  • Handle and process hazmat originating from 3D printers.
  • Restock and apply passivation material at various collection and refill sites in facility.
  • Handle and process raw materials used to feed 3D printers.
  • Transporting and logging transactions while on shift.
  • Handle and process printed parts with various lifting assists on a multitude of 3D printers.
  • Logging and maintaining data while on production floor through mobile work stations and tablets.
  • Deep understanding of Microsoft Windows and iOS devices.
