About The Position

The Technician 3, HVAC/Refrigeration is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of the heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems/equipment. This role ensures these systems meet the stringent requirements of pharmaceutical manufacturing and storage environments. Additionally, this role is responsible for conducting regular inspections and preventative maintenance on HVAC/R systems to ensure they are operating within the required specifications. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 4-6 years of experience as an HVAC technician in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing refrigerant systems and testing and certifying HEPA filters.
  • Completion of an apprenticeship or vocational training in HVAC.
  • Universal Refrigerant Recovery Certification (EPA 608 Certification).
  • Completion of an apprenticeship program or vocational training in HVAC work.
  • Knowledge of HVAC design principles and standards, such as ASHRAE and SMACNA.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data to make informed decisions.
  • Ability to train or mentor others.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints and schematics.
  • Ability to lift and move heavy equipment.
  • Knowledge of system air balancing activities required for clean room environments and pressure cascades.
  • Must be able to support 24/7 manufacturing facility, including shift, on-call, and weekends.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree in mechanical, electrical, applied engineering or another relevant field.
  • Prior experience as an HVAC technician in a pharmaceutical or manufacturing environment.
  • Prior experience working in a GMP manufacturing environment.
  • Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) or equivalent work order management experience.
  • Prior experience with starting, commissioning, and validating HVAC equipment.
  • H3 Certification.
  • HVAC/Refrigeration Certification.

Responsibilities

  • Performs routine and preventative maintenance, reporting of the complex heating, ventilation, air condition and refrigeration systems and equipment of the site with limited or no direct supervision.
  • Reports complex HVAC issues to management and plant engineering.
  • Oversees installation of equipment, as required.
  • Leads large projects related to HVAC systems, such as air handler replacements, cold room upgrades or replacements.
  • Provides recommendations to management in developing and implementing HVAC maintenance schedules.
  • Mentors or provides training to other departments or HVAC technicians.
  • Provides recommendations in developing and implementing maintenance and repair plans for HVAC systems and equipment.
  • Completes specialized training programs focused on HVAC systems to stay up to date on current best HVAC practices and HEPA certification.
  • Follows all safety protocols and guidelines.
  • Performs and manages certifications for Fume Hoods, Laminar flow hoods, and Biosafety Cabinet's.
  • Routinely tests and certifies HEPA filters to prescribed schedule.
  • Assists in the building and maintaining of contracts with external vendors, as needed.
  • Conducts work adhering to system air balancing activities required for clean room environments, specifically pressure cascades to maintain cleanliness.
  • Assists site functions to qualify and maintain production equipment related to HVAC or Refrigeration.
  • Interacts with vendors or other departments, contractors, and disciplines to schedule repairs, maintenance, etc…
  • Works with the Building Management Systems (BMS) monitoring program to trend and review specific data relating to HVAC systems.
  • Collaborates cross functionally with Utilities, Plant Engineering, and all support groups.
  • Participates in revising or developing standard operating procedures (SOPs), as needed.
  • Supports site operations and emergency work orders during off-hours, as needed.
  • Performs other duties, as assigned.
