About The Position

The Technical Trainer III position at Charles River Laboratories involves developing, delivering, documenting, and reporting on technical training programs for laboratory animal care. This role is crucial for ensuring compliance with facility SOPs, company policies, and federal regulations while enhancing the skills of staff involved in animal care and husbandry. The trainer will coordinate training schedules, support onboarding, and assess trainee progress to maintain high standards of animal welfare and technical proficiency.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor's degree in animal or laboratory science, business, or related discipline preferred.
  • Minimum three years of previous training and hands-on experience in technical animal care procedures.
  • Additional three years of laboratory animal science and/or veterinary technical job roles required.
  • Experience in the development of technical training programs and modules required.
  • Experience in delivering instructor-led training and e-learning methodologies preferred.
  • AALAS certification at the Laboratory Animal Technologist level (LATG) preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in synchronous online learning (e.g., webinars) and asynchronous (e-learning) methodologies preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Research, develop, perform and document technical, husbandry and administrative training for employee training courses.
  • Coordinate training schedules and activities with Human Resources, Operations, and Customers.
  • Support delivery of staff onboarding for CRADL Staff and Insourcing Solutions local contract staff.
  • Formulate teaching outlines and determine appropriate instructional methods.
  • Select and/or develop appropriate teaching aids such as training handbooks and multimedia visual aids.
  • Test trainees to measure progress and evaluate effectiveness of training.
  • Monitor trainee technical proficiency and make on-the-spot corrections to skill deficiencies.
  • Maintain teaching laboratory area and equipment in compliance with applicable site SOPs.
  • Track and ensure availability of additional resources needed for training implementation.
  • Implement a schedule of hands-on technique demonstrations and training for staff.
  • Identify client demand for specialty technique training and pursue workshops or private instruction.
  • Report non-compliance or animal welfare concerns to the appropriate team member.
