We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Technical Trainer to join our team at GEM Plumbing & Heating, a leading provider of Plumbing, Heating & Cooling, and Electrical solutions. The focus of the Technical Trainer will be responsible for developing, coordinating, and delivering training programs to enhance the technical skills of our current employees, while ensuring they stay up to date with industry standards, safety protocols, and the latest technologies. This role requires a deep understanding of plumbing and heating systems, excellent communication skills, and the ability to create engaging, hands-on training experiences. This position will report to the Lincoln, RI location with travel within RI, MA, and CT worksite locations.

Requirements

  • Technical training experience is highly preferred
  • Proven experience as a plumber with in-depth knowledge of plumbing systems, tools, equipment, and safety standards.
  • At least 3 years of experience in a Trades roles: HVAC or Plumbing-related role, with hands-on experience in installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing systems.
  • Experience in training, coaching, or teaching, preferably in a technical field.
  • Strong knowledge of plumbing codes, safety regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to a variety of audiences.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a hands-on approach to learning.
  • Ability to adapt training styles to suit different learning preferences.
  • Certification in plumbing or a related field is preferred (e.g., Journeyman or Master Plumber).
  • Experience with digital tools or e-learning platforms for training delivery is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and update training materials, manuals, and educational resources focused on plumbing systems, installation, repair, and maintenance.
  • Create comprehensive training programs for different levels of expertise, from new hires to seasoned technicians.
  • Develop e-learning modules and instructional guides to supplement hands-on training.
  • Conduct engaging and effective training sessions, both in-person and remotely, for employees at various skill levels.
  • Provide hands-on demonstrations and practical exercises to reinforce technical learning.
  • Offer individualized coaching and mentorship to technicians as needed.
  • Assess employee proficiency through tests, quizzes, practical exams, and on-the-job performance to ensure understanding and competence in plumbing practices.
  • Identify knowledge gaps and create targeted training to address weaknesses and enhance overall technical expertise.
  • Ensure all plumbing staff are well-versed in safety standards, codes, and regulations (e.g., OSHA, local plumbing codes).
  • Provide ongoing safety and compliance education to reduce workplace incidents and improve operational efficiency.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, new plumbing and HVAC technologies, and best practices.
  • Incorporate the latest advancements into training materials and sessions to keep staff at the forefront of industry changes.
  • Solicit feedback from employees and managers to continuously improve training programs.
  • Work closely with field supervisors and managers to assess training needs and provide targeted development.
  • Support the onboarding of new hires by providing them with the necessary technical knowledge and skills required to succeed in their role.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and resolving technical issues that arise in the field.
