About The Position

The Technical Supervisor - Mass Spectrometry will oversee the day-to-day operations of the mass spectrometry laboratory, ensuring the accuracy, reliability, and quality of analytical results. This role involves supervising a team of scientists and technicians, managing laboratory resources, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to support research and development projects. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in mass spectrometry, strong leadership skills, and a deep understanding of laboratory best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or a related field is required; a Master's or Ph.D. is preferred.
  • Must hold a current State of California Clinical Laboratory Scientist License as Generalist or Clinical Chemist Scientist.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist in Chemistry.
  • Minimum of 1 years of experience in mass spectrometry, including hands-on experience with various mass spectrometers (e.g., LC-MS, GC-MS, MALDI-TOF, etc.).
  • Demonstrated expertise in method development, validation, and troubleshooting of mass spectrometry techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate daily activities within the mass spectrometry lab, ensuring efficient workflow and adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Oversee the maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of mass spectrometry instruments and related equipment.
  • Implement and monitor quality control procedures to ensure the accuracy and reliability of analytical data.
  • Ensure the laboratory is enrolled in an approved PT program commensurate with services offered.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations and laboratory best practices.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to laboratory staff, including training on mass spectrometry techniques, data analysis, and instrument operation.
  • Develop and implement new methodologies and protocols to improve laboratory capabilities and efficiency.
  • Review and interpret complex data generated from mass spectrometry experiments, ensuring that results meet project objectives and quality standards.
  • Stay current with advancements in mass spectrometry technologies and apply new techniques as appropriate.
  • Work closely with project managers, scientists, and other stakeholders to design and execute mass spectrometry experiments that support research and development goals.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery of results and effective communication with cross-functional teams.
  • Contribute to the planning and budgeting process for the mass spectrometry laboratory, including resource allocation and procurement of necessary supplies and equipment.
  • Lead, motivate, and manage a team of scientists and technicians, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, provide constructive feedback, and identify opportunities for professional development.
  • Recruit, onboard, and train new team members to maintain a high level of expertise within the lab.
  • Prepare detailed reports, presentations, and documentation of experimental results for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure that all laboratory records, including instrument logs, calibration records, and SOPs, are maintained accurately and up to date.
  • Assist in the preparation of manuscripts, grant proposals, and regulatory submissions as needed.
