About The Position

The MPD Technical Superintendent is responsible for the performance of Managed Pressure Drilling (MPD) operations on Noble vessels. The Superintendent is to provide frontline support to the MPD crew, the client, and the Noble Operations team. The support starts with the design and engineering of the MPD system through the installation and operations. It includes operational guidance, troubleshooting, and coordination with the service companies. The MPD Technical Superintendent shall be available 24/7 for on-call operational support, except during approved time off. Noble is a leading offshore drilling contractor. Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in Managed Pressure Drilling.
  • Experience with Managed Pressure Cementing
  • Excellent understanding of applied surface back pressure and a technical understanding of PMCD (Pressurized Mud Cap Drilling) and CML (Controlled Mud Level).
  • This position requires a technical understanding of NOV (National Oilwell Varco), WFD (Weatherford), and SLB (Schlumberger) MPD systems.
  • The ability to adapt, resolve challenges and make decisions.
  • The ability to establish priorities, delegate responsibilities and meet deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Projects, and Microsoft Visio.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Offshore MPD personnel management and oversight.
  • Noble representative of MPD Service and coordinating operations with the client.
  • Responsible for the accuracy of the rig specific operating and contingency procedures for each vessel.
  • Their peer reviews through class, independent 3rd party, and regulatory bodies.
  • Coordinate and execute HAZID / HAZOP for each campaign with Noble’s client and MPD Service Providers.
  • Prepare all documentation required for New Technology Plan and respond to any clarifications from BSEE.
  • Support marketing teams with contract negotiations of MPD requirements.
  • Provide FEED (Front End Engineering Design) for new MPD installations and ensure all aspects of the MPD System and Operation comply with regulatory and adhere to class requirements.
  • Coordinate all documents and engineering for the Managed Pressure Drilling Class Notation.
  • Ensure contractual compliance of all MPD equipment and procedures.
  • Manage compliance with API and local regulatory authorities.
  • Support and coordinate engineering and procurement of MPD systems.
  • Write and execute rig specific SIT (System Integration Test) plan.
  • Provide quality assurance for installation and commissioning plans.
  • Responsible for the competency of the offshore crews and provide Learning and Development with curriculum and feedback on course content.
  • Review and approve end of well reporting prior to distribution.
  • Conduct an AAR (After Action Review) for each MPD well.
  • Generate or review technical alerts.
  • Assist operational team with risk assessments and managements of change.
  • Provide visible leadership and engagement with the crew and customers with at least three offshore trips per year.
  • Offshore certifications shall be maintained and the ability to travel domestic and international is required.
  • Review and audit maintenance records recorded by the offshore team.
  • Verify accuracy of attributes, in-service dates, and quality of the maintenance records. This includes verifying all assets are in the hierarchy, all attributes are correct, and have the proper maintenance assigned to them.
  • Coordinate repair and recertification of MPD equipment with the vendor, operations, and procurement.
  • Develop the repair scope, review, and approve inspection test plans (ITP), and witness or coordinate factory acceptance testing as required.
  • Responsible for ensuring all system documentation, calculation, drawings, manufacturing, and repair records are retained and available from the corporate office upon request.
  • Recommend improvements to MPD equipment, systems, or processes that add value to Noble.
  • Industry engagement with IADC (International Association of Drilling Contractors) and API (American Petroleum Institute) as directed by MPD Manager. This includes travel and participation in API, IADC, OOC committees with writing and developing managed pressure drilling standards, specifications, and best practices.
  • Assist learning and development with MPD related training which includes interfacing with vendors, developing curriculum, and instruction.
  • Support Noble with all aspects of MPD or Well Control Equipment as directed by line management.
  • Proficient in running hydraulic simulations in SLB Drill Bench.
