About The Position

Technical support position for Center for Advanced Ceramic Technology in the areas of ceramic materials research, processing, and characterization including, but not limited to, support for projects related to the Space Materials Institute, Center for High Temperature Characterization, CREATE Center, Center for Glass Innovation, and industry-sponsored projects generally. Rate: $36.92 Essential Functions With or without reasonable accommodations the incumbent must be able to read and write and speak the English language at a college level, be capable of performing sometimes complex mathematical calculations, and must be able to communicate with all levels of the institution in written and spoken form. The individual must be able to work independently. Other essential functions may be required. Support industrial projects in the areas of technical ceramics and glass, including operating a wide range of equipment used in ceramic materials processing and characterization. Plan for optimal delivery of diverse research and testing activities in the area of technical ceramics and glass materials. Work with a diverse clientele in a highly professional manner, including but not limited to federal agencies, state agencies, industrial sponsors, and AU faculty and staff. Other Duties & Responsibilities Supports and assists in creating intersections for faculty, staff and students that will assist in transforming people’s lives. Supports and assists in creating an evolving culture of mentoring and rich engagement opportunities for faculty, staff, and students. Maintains a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion and a high degree of cultural competence and respect for a wide range of identities and experiences, therefore welcoming and supporting all faculty, staff and students and expanding access to the AU experience. Maintains a safe working environment within and around their facilities and associated equipment and supplies including, but not limited to, obtaining Safety Data Sheet (SDS) information pertaining to any hazards associated with their work environment. Participates in all required assigned training, including safety training and will comply with safety rules, regulations, and protocols. Effective written and oral communication skills. Contributes to the overall success of the University by performing other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of master’s degree in engineering field; Ph.D. degree in engineering related field preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience working in ceramic materials processing, characterization, and related advanced manufacturing processes required.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent organization skills
  • Ability to collaborate across functional groups within the University
  • Personal Protective Equipment must be worn when required.
  • A respiratory function test and the ability to use respirators may be required.

Nice To Haves

  • Ph.D. degree in engineering related field
  • Knowledge of typical materials characterization tools and testing procedures is a plus.
