About The Position

Performs complex level work in the operation, maintenance, and repair of all building automation systems (BAS) throughout Wake County Public School System (WCPSS). Works closely with operators and other field personnel to troubleshoot, analyze, maintain, and repair BAS. Provides technical level expertise in the troubleshooting of new and replacement BAS. Performs highly skilled technical work involving maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of BAS and Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems.

Requirements

  • Extensive knowledge of BAS, HVAC systems, networking equipment, electrical equipment, and fixtures;
  • Considerable knowledge of computers, hardware, software, and programming languages;
  • Considerable knowledge of Information Technology Networking protocols;
  • Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Word and Excel; Google Apps;
  • Working knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards;
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills;
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;
  • Ability to work independently and part of a team and complete tasks in the absence of clear direction;
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, mechanical, and electrical drawings, and diagrams;
  • Ability to perform arithmetic calculations;
  • Ability to troubleshoot and perform maintenance and repairs related to BAS equipment;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, contractors, vendors, and external agencies.
  • High school diploma or equivalent;
  • Five years of experience directly related to electrical systems installation and repair;
  • Ten years of experience with or directly related in the field of building automation and control, energy management, and large-scale, multi-building HVAC systems;
  • Experience in servicing BAS, including multiple software interfaces;
  • Experience with multiple BAS manufacturers;
  • Experience with Honeywell, Schneider, JCI, Trane, and other systems;
  • An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
  • Certification in Lon-Works, BAC-net, Tridium R2 and AX/N4 Architecture;
  • Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license according to the State of NC requirements;
  • Within twelve months of employment complete safety training according to OSHA standards.

Responsibilities

  • Performs complex level work associated with BAS, materials, equipment, and fixtures.
  • Responds to assigned work orders relating to energy management and HVAC.
  • Troubleshoots appropriate corrective measures and performs work to provide a solution.
  • Replacement and programming of faulty or defective BAS.
  • Monitors and adjusts building automation systems software to ensure efficient operation of equipment and compliance with energy policies.
  • Prepares and maintains records, work logs, and reports, as needed.
  • Adheres to laws, regulations, and requirements set forth in the WCPSS safety procedures/policies.
  • Maintains compliance and adherence to all safety procedures, occupational health practices, and maintains a safe work environment.
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned.
