About The Position

The Technical Services Manager at ASARCO LLC is responsible for overseeing all mine planning and design activities at the ASARCO Ray Mine. This role involves managing geotechnical and hydrological risks, ensuring alignment with production targets, and providing leadership across various technical services teams. The manager will drive operational excellence while fostering a culture of safety and continuous learning within the team.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or related field.
• Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in open pit mining operations.
• Advanced knowledge of mining software packages.
• Strong proficiency in 3D modern mining software such as Hexagon MinePlan, Deswik, and Whittle.
• Proficiency in FMS such as Modular Mining Dispatch and CAT Minestar.
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and demonstrate project management skills.
• Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Outstanding interpersonal, communication, and leadership abilities.
• In-depth knowledge of safety and environmental regulations in the mining industry.
• Proven ability to thrive in a dynamic mining environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach, and develop the Technical Services Team including Mine Planning, Geology, Hydrogeology, Slope Engineering, Survey, and the Assay Laboratory.
• Mentor and develop skills of Technical Services staff members through training and industry participation.
• Foster a culture of collaboration, safety, and continuous learning within the team.
• Ensure the Technical Services teams meet their weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual responsibilities.
• Drive the production forecast and budget cycle, including ownership of mining cost models and improvement initiatives.
• Manage the development of comprehensive mining plans, including pit designs and production schedules.
• Coordinate Technical Services work with mine planning, geology, dewatering, slope engineering, drill & blast, and mine operations.
• Refine plans to adapt to changing conditions and business demands.
• Troubleshoot problems and inspect open pit operations; analyze and recommend solutions.
• Develop and manage departmental budgets for the Technical Services Department.
• Provide expert guidance on mining processes, equipment selection, and extraction methods.
• Stay updated on mining technologies and recommend adoption where applicable.
• Allocate personnel and material resources efficiently.
• Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce operational expenses.
• Generate detailed reports on production, costs, safety metrics, and present findings to senior management.
• Manage collaboration with cross-functional teams and contractors to ensure compliance with standards and regulations.
• Execute and support the Company's Environmental, Health and Safety program.
