As a critical member of the Plant Leadership Team, the Technical Services Manager serves as lead in both process and technical aspects of the refinery. As a people leader, this role will guide the respective teams in enhancing operations performance, safety, and profitability with process, instrument, and control engineering. This role manages Safe Operating Limits (SOL) targets and deviations from plan for management through a structured optimization process. Manages, directs, and organizes contractor activities.

  • Manages the Process Engineering, Analytical Chemistry, Quality, and Control Systems teams of the refinery to optimize daily operations and develop long-term solutions.
  • Provides mentoring and guidance for the process technical department to ensure that performance management and development occurs.
  • Ensures that all work is performed safely and in accordance with all Calumet Vision, Mission, Values and Critical Life Safety rules.
  • Enhances operations performance and project development with the Process, Project and Controls Engineering, and the Analytical Laboratory.
  • Provides leadership to engineering staff, including assignment and work schedule, monitoring performance, coaching, mentoring, and assuring the quality of work of the team.
  • Provides oversight and direction to the Controls Engineering group, to ensure proper protocols are followed and that consistent control of the plant units occurs.
  • Advises economics and planning group and operations on process targets, economics, and deviations from plans.
  • Manages and prioritizes multiple tasks and projects for department.
  • Provides engineering support for operations departments at the unit level to ensure optimized operations, as well as for refinery safety and environmental performance.
  • Bachelor’s in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a technical related field. MBA preferred.
  • A minimum of 8 years’ working experience in the petrochemical, chemical or oil industry. Working experience in refinery operations, process engineering, economic modeling and process control systems preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a managerial role in engineering.
  • Several years of experience in the renewable energy sector, with a focus on fuels production.
  • Demonstrated expertise in renewable fuels operations and related technologies.
