Requirements

  • Qualified candidates will possess a minimum of a B.S. degree in Chemistry, Material or Polymer Science, Polymer/Material Engineering with an emphasis in analytical characterization.
  • Industrial experience is necessary.
  • At least 3 years of experience with demonstrated expertise in small molecule, polymer, and materials characterization.
  • Strong background and hands-on experience in polymer/chemical characterization techniques, such as FT-IR, GC-MS, DSC, TGA, SEM, XRF, and DMA.
  • Knowledge of polymer bulk physical properties, mechanics, and/or polymer processing a plus.
  • Proven track record of delivering projects and communicating results.
  • Previous experience with Polymer Compound development in the wire & cable industry preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe laboratory environment by complying with safety rules and procedures.
  • Lead projects (establish a testing plan, carry out the measurements, analyze/interpret the data, expand test plan, if needed, and communicate the results and next steps to customers).
  • Perform laboratory testing with high data integrity – to identify and correct technical product and customer issues; conduct necessary testing; evaluates/interprets results.
  • Determine any gaps in instrumentation/capabilities and propose plans to remediate those gaps.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment – to be able to independently operate all equipment and its routine repair and maintenance as well as the research to replace said equipment.
  • Familiarity with a range of polymer characterization instruments (FT-IR, DSC, TGA, DMA, SEM, XRF, microscopes, etc.).
  • Familiarity with product and raw material test methods to determine the best course of action.
  • Access and knowledge of all raw material and process specifications and product specifications and requirements.
  • Develop and maintain contacts with instrument vendors and keep up to date on new technologies.
  • Work to tight deadlines as well as contributing to longer term R&D projects.
  • Prepare informative and accurate technical reports in a timely manner.
  • Update and maintain records/database on compound changes or modifications.
