About The Position

The BFT2 Technical Services Engineer will provide customer, production, and engineering support for both government and commercial systems, including hubs, remote terminals, and COTS equipment. This support will include a mixture of remote and onsite support for the existing BFT2 network. Key responsibilities include supporting deployment, testing, documentation, training, operation, maintenance, and solving problems with the production network. We work successfully with both internal and external personnel with various skills. Disciplines requiring support include software, hardware, electrical, IP networking, configuration management, IA, and technical publications. As a team member your remote support duty is to support the operation of the network. Examples include (but are not limited to) initial system configuration, performance monitoring, analysis of trend data, and resolution of system problems. We interface remotely with customers and other Viasat groups via phone and email to provide issue resolution and answer customer questions. This support is 24/7 and requires each Service Engineer to participate in an on-call rotation. Standard on-site support duties include CONUS and OCONUS installations, testing, training, and maintenance of all locations. This includes hardware, networking, and RF component maintenance and repair, software test and integration, as well as routine maintenance and configuration changes. This position is needed for supporting both current and future L-band system customers within the services group.

Requirements

  • Proven experience using RHEL, Ansible, Cisco
  • Demonstrated experience with Linux based servers
  • Proven ability to work with IP/Network problems at all layers of OSI model
  • Experience administering and troubleshooting Cisco Networks, Routers, Switches and Firewalls
  • Current Security+ certification
  • Current CCNA or higher certification (CCNP, CCIE, CISSP)
  • Bachelor's degree in related technical field or directly related experience
  • US government position. US Citizenship required
  • Active DoD Secret Clearance
  • Ability to travel up to 50% both CONUS and OCONUS

Nice To Haves

  • 6+ years’ experience operating and solving issues with SATCOM networks and terminals
  • Linux Red Hat Certified System Administrator
  • Experience in OpenShift/Kubernetes/Virtual environments

Responsibilities

  • Interact with customers on solving problems
  • Analyze system issues and perform corrective actions
  • Perform On-Site maintenance at each site as the need arises
  • Conduct training at various local and remote sites
  • Design and update training and operator manuals used by the customer
  • Perform remote maintenance and software updates
  • Operate and maintain customer and Viasat L-band Networks
  • Configure and update Network configuration changes
  • Software testing and integration
  • Confirm Network configuration changes in a lab environment and deploy tested network configuration changes to a production environment
  • Participate in 24/7/365 on-call duty rotation and respond to customer escalations
