About The Position

Milliken & Company is seeking a Technical Service Chemist for the Americas, specifically within the Coating Additives division. This full-time position is centered on supporting the development and growth of the coating additives business. The successful candidate will partner with the sales team to develop new business opportunities while providing effective technical service to both existing and new accounts. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in formulating coatings, a passion for laboratory work, and excellent communication and presentation skills. This role is crucial in driving technical performance, excellence, and value to customers continuously. The Technical Service Chemist will report to the Technical Service Manager, Americas, and will be based in the Westlake, Ohio office and technical center. The responsibilities include effectively communicating with customers to understand their needs, presenting the company and its products, and providing expert advice. The chemist will solve formulation issues for customers, which may involve moderate to difficult complexity projects, and will be expected to provide top-quality technical support within acceptable to aggressive timelines. Demonstrating added value and performance enhancement through laboratory work and technical evidence is a key aspect of this role. In addition to direct customer interaction, the Technical Service Chemist will need to understand the competitive landscape and product differentiation. Effective communication with stakeholders at various levels, including bench chemists, technical leaders, the sales team, and customers, is essential. The role also involves contributing to technical and marketing communications to promote the growth of the coatings additive business, influencing product development on a regional level, and supporting the creation of technical literature, sales tools, and training programs for both internal and distributor use. The position requires maintaining accurate project data on the Alchemy project platform and preparing reports on lab projects to communicate findings internally and externally. Hands-on laboratory work is a significant component of this position, along with a commitment to Milliken's Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) policies and values. The role may require up to 30% travel, both domestic and international.
