The Technical Sales Support Manager is responsible for bridging innovation and customer success by leading R&D initiatives, supporting Sales with technical expertise, and managing product development projects from concept to execution. This role plays a key part in identifying growth opportunities, delivering tailored solutions to clients, and ensuring cross-functional alignment between R&D, Sales, Operations, and Regulatory teams.

  • Provide daily customer support, including responding to inquiries, feedback, and new project requests.
  • Maintain engagement on active customer projects and ensure timely follow-up.
  • Develop and revise custom seasoning blends that meet customer specifications, including dietary, regulatory, and cost constraints.
  • Blend small-scale seasoning samples in the R&D lab and prepare finished food applications for customer evaluation.
  • Source and qualify new ingredients with suppliers and manage documentation for internal approval processes.
  • Collaborate with the Reno R&D team on ingredient trials and production optimization.
  • Support ingredient sampling and testing across facilities for consistency and efficiency.
  • Maintain R&D lab supplies and pantry inventory; shop for project ingredients and trade show materials as needed.
  • Coordinate tradeshow logistics including registration, booth setup, samples, SWAG, travel, and personnel.
  • Attend customer meetings, leadership sessions, industry events, and association functions both virtually and in person.
  • Lead and manage communications for the Maryland IFT and assist with broader leadership responsibilities.
  • Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and innovations; communicate relevant updates to customers and internal teams.
  • Provide Sales with technical support, including formulation insights, ingredient functionality, cost drivers, and substitutions.
  • Troubleshoot product issues and collaborate on solutions to meet customer expectations and supply challenges.
  • Conduct in-person tastings for Sales to align teams on customer flavor profiles and project considerations.
  • Support customer demos, production scale-ups, and trend presentations with on-site technical expertise.
  • Ensure all customer samples are high quality, compliant, and representative of final product expectations.
  • Brainstorm new product concepts with customers and internal R&D/Marketing teams.
  • Work with Plant and QC to improve product formulas and optimize manufacturing processes.
  • Partner with the Product Development Manager on shared responsibilities such as project prioritization, lab management, and pantry stocking.
  • Collaborate with Regulatory for ingredient compliance and documentation as needed.
  • Source ingredients, identify alternate suppliers, and support vendor management.
  • Handle additional assignments and responsibilities as directed by leadership.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the food industry with a focus on product development and project leadership.
  • Experience in technical sales support, customer collaboration, and R&D execution.
  • Proven success in cross-functional collaboration and innovation strategy development.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to present clearly and professionally.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and skilled in multitasking and project tracking.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and general computer applications.
  • Ability to manage deadlines in a dynamic, customer-focused environment.
  • Strong analytical skills with a creative, solution-oriented mindset.
  • Comfortable in customer-facing situations and willing to travel as needed.
