How You Will Contribute: Join Ciena as a Sales Engineer, working on-site at a Tier 1 service provider’s headquarters location three or more days per week. You’ll become a trusted advisor to customer contacts, from working to executive levels, supporting the service provider’s sales and product management teams, including engagements with their end customer. This is a technical role positioning new technology proposals, the creation of network designs, engineering documentation and quotes to help win new business.

Requirements

  • Highly motivated, with strong interpersonal skills excellent presentation/communication skills and ability to handle competing priorities.
  • Strong knowledge of the Ciena portfolio including RLS, Waveserver, Navigator, Planner Plus and SAOS
  • Must be able to create optical network designs using Planner Plus
  • Strong technical leadership skills with the ability to influence stakeholders to deliver objectives.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, proven record of presenting technical solutions to all levels
  • Technical background in optical networking, including network engineering and sales engineering roles.
  • Deep understanding of service provider optical networking trends such as pluggable optics and the impact of AI on service provider networks
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering
  • Minimum 5 years experience in Sales Engineering or working at a Tier 1 service provider / Architectural experience with Service Providers.
  • Must be in Dallas, TX three or more days per week without the need for travel

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with 4G and 5G wireless networking, xRAN and front/mid/backhaul network systems.
  • Familiarity with automation, analytics, and AI usage in networking operations
  • Industry certifications would be a plus

Responsibilities

  • Act as a trusted technical advisor to service provider customers, building durable, value‑based relationships
  • Collaborate closely with Account Managers to translate customer requirements into solution designs using Ciena’s portfolio – hardware, software and services
  • Deliver compelling, yet clear and easy to follow technical presentations and demonstrations that communicate both technical capabilities and business value
  • Maintain strong awareness of market trends and portfolio evolution to articulate differentiated value
  • Create quotes, engineering documentation, BOMs and templates for customer quotes using Excel and other tools
