About The Position

The Technical Sales Engineer – Photovoltaic & BESS serves as a technical subject matter expert supporting customers, internal sales teams, and manufacturing partners with photovoltaic (PV) and battery energy storage system (BESS) solutions within an electrical distribution environment. This role bridges engineering knowledge and sales execution by providing application support, product selection guidance, code compliance insight, and technical training for commercial, industrial, and utility-interconnected projects.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in electrical distribution, renewable energy, or technical sales
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Strong understanding of photovoltaic (PV), battery energy storage systems (BESS), and electrical distribution systems
  • Working knowledge of electrical codes and distribution best practices
  • Ability to translate technical and engineering concepts into practical, customer-focused solutions
  • Strong technical communication and customer-facing skills
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and responsive in a fast-paced sales environment
  • Comfortable collaborating across sales, operations, manufacturers, and external partners

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience working for or with an electrical distributor preferred
  • NABCEP PV Installation Professional and/or Energy Storage Certification
  • Journeyman Electrician license or equivalent hands-on field experience
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
  • Manufacturer-specific technical certifications

Responsibilities

  • Provide pre-sales and post-sales technical support for PV and BESS products
  • Assist customers and sales teams with system architecture, product selection, and equipment compatibility
  • Review single-line diagrams, equipment schedules, and specifications to support quoting and submittals
  • Support value engineering efforts to optimize cost, performance, and availability
  • Serve as subject matter expert for solar inverters, battery systems, EMS, and balance-of-system components
  • Explain AC- and DC-coupled PV + BESS configurations and their impact on electrical distribution systems
  • Support applications including backup power, peak shaving, load shifting, and grid-interactive use cases
  • Assist with troubleshooting, returns, and manufacturer warranty coordination
  • Advise on integrating PV and BESS into existing electrical distribution systems
  • Provide guidance on NEC Articles 690, 705, and 706, grounding, bonding, OCPD, and disconnect requirements
  • Support utility interconnection requirements and product acceptance
  • Coordinate with utilities, AHJs, engineers, and contractors as needed
  • Deliver technical product training to internal sales teams and customers
  • Support manufacturer line cards, product launches, and technical documentation
  • Participate in customer meetings, lunch-and-learns, and project planning discussions
  • Build strong relationships with manufacturers, contractors, engineers, and utilities
