About The Position

This position is accountable for managing the Information Resource Center (IRC) library staff and their efforts in collection development, reference requests, interlibrary loans, bibliographic records, and archival activities. This position oversees the IRC collection, ensures compliance with the General Assembly and State Library Acts through the Document Deposit Program, and provides one-on-one and group training for patrons and staff. This position assists with employee development as needed by providing resources for licensure exams or training on available information resources. In addition, this position conducts in-depth searches and information requests for the Executive Office.

Requirements

  • Completion of a bachelor’s degree majoring in library science, information science, English, or history PLUS three years of experience working in a library, information management, research, managing documents, subscriptions in digital and physical collections or a combination thereof OR Eleven years of experience working in a library, information management, research, managing documents, subscriptions in digital and physical collections or a combination thereof.
  • Requires a valid driver’s license.
  • Requires limited statewide and out-of-state travel with overnight stays.
  • Requires successful completion of a background screening.

Responsibilities

  • Manages and directs all library services for the department, including reference, collection development, acquisitions, and digitization of archival documents.
  • Ensures departmental compliance with the State Library Act for document deposit. Provides a full range of library services including maintaining technical reference works, textbooks, and other various publications for use by departmental personnel necessary to accomplish objectives.
  • Participates in national efforts and maintains active contact with national groups to ensure knowledge of subject matter experts and national practices and technologies are incorporated into state practice.
  • Explains library resources to departmental personnel and locates material pertaining to specialized topics of research subjects.
  • Collaborates with the Information Access Manager to ensure electronic resources are accessible.
  • Trains and evaluates subordinates to ensure a well-developed and competent staff maintaining certification for compliance with state and regional library system policies.
  • Plans, directs, and implements special projects involving the Information Resources Center promotion and outreach activities.
  • Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
