Mission Overview & Responsibilities: The Data Platform Mission aims to empower the organization to access and use data to answer important questions, power user experiences, and to make strategic decisions. We are looking for a Technical Product Manager that can help develop the product management function within Data Platform and focus on developing analytics, business intelligence (BI), and related tooling and experiences. You will partner with many different teams and roles to develop our analytics environment, BI and visualization tools. This is a hybrid role based in our New York City office. As a Technical Product Manager, you'll work with teams of engineers, data scientists, and analysts to build a strategy for improving the process, systems, and tools used to make data-driven decisions and experiences as efficiently as possible. You will create impact through reusable, extensible, and scalable platform capabilities that can address different use cases.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience designing and building analytics, Business Intelligence solutions, or data products as a product manager or equivalent role.
  • Track record implementing complex data systems applying supporting data analysis, reasoning, and optimization as part of the decision-making process.
  • Experience in data handling approaches and technologies.
  • Understanding of data governance, data modeling, data pipelines, and data infrastructure.
  • Experience communicating complex technical concepts to a variety of audiences.

Nice To Haves

  • Background in software development, engineering, data science, or marketing technologies.
  • Hands-on experience using BI, Analytics, and data tools (ex: Hex, dbt, MonteCarlo, or Chartbeat)
  • Familiarity with data querying languages and technologies (ex: SQL, python, BigQuery, AWS, or Spark).

  • Collaborate with data leaders to create a coordinated data products roadmap.
  • Deliver high-quality, easy-to-use data experiences, tools, and solutions across many domains that enhance data-driven decision-making.
  • Deliver data capabilities that help data analysts, scientists, product managers, and others to discover and consume information about our content and business.
  • Establish curated data experiences that meet the business where they are and make it easier to work with data.
  • Partner with teams across the organization to understand and address data and analytics needs.
  • Collaborate with product and engineering teams to prioritize requests, communicate progress, and deliver impactful work.
  • Deliver iterative products that provide incremental value and gather quick feedback from partners.
  • Use qualitative and quantitative methods to measure the impact of your work.
  • Work with data power-users and analytics teams to integrate advanced visualization methods and tooling adoption.
  • Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world.
