As a Technical Principal II within the Strategic Systems advanced technology organization, you will serve as a senior technical authority driving both propulsion system innovation and scalable manufacturing transformation. In this role, you will work in close partnership with the Chief Technologist, directly supporting the development, maturation, and insertion of advanced propulsion technologies into operational programs. You will lead cross-functional efforts spanning propulsion architecture development, manufacturing technology innovation, and production scale-up, with a strong emphasis on design for manufacturing, automation, digital engineering, and agentic AI integration across propulsion system manufacturing. This role requires a balance of deep technical expertise, strategic vision, and execution leadership to enable rapid technology transition, resilient supply chain growth, and cost-effective production at scale.

Requirements

15+ years of Controllable Solid Propulsion industry experience, with at least 10 years in a Chief Engineer or Lead Systems/Mechanical Engineering role.
Bachelor’s degree in aerospace, mechanical, electrical engineering, or a related discipline.
U.S. Citizen with ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance.
Deep experience in propulsion system design, development, and transition to production environments.
Demonstrated experience in advanced manufacturing, production scale-up, or industrialization of complex systems.
Strong technical writing and presentation skills, with ability to communicate complex systems to executive stakeholders and customers.
Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams in fast-paced, high-consequence development environments.
Ability to travel up to 25%.

Nice To Haves

Recognized expert in solid rocket propulsion by prime integrators or government customers.
Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in a relevant engineering discipline.
Experience with automation, digital manufacturing, or AI-driven production systems.
Background in smart factories, Industry 4.0, or agentic AI applications in manufacturing.
Demonstrated success scaling hardware production while reducing cost and improving quality.
Strong relationships with missile, defense, or space system customers and suppliers.

Responsibilities

Serve as Chief Engineer or Technical Lead supporting the execution of leading-edge propulsion technology development initiatives, with responsibility for transitioning technologies into full-scale development programs and eventual production.
Act as a primary technical partner to the Chief Technologist, supporting propulsion technology development, maturation, and insertion into operational systems.
Lead propulsion system architecture development with a strong emphasis on design for manufacturing (DFM), ensuring alignment with mission requirements, performance targets, producibility, and cost-efficient high-rate production.
Conduct and oversee rigorous technical reviews, risk assessments, and design evaluations across propulsion programs.
Drive the development and deployment of advanced manufacturing technologies for propulsion systems, with emphasis on scalability and repeatability.
Lead automation initiatives including robotics, digital twins, and smart factory capabilities to modernize production environments.
Integrate agentic AI solutions into manufacturing workflows to enhance process optimization, quality control, and real-time decision-making.
Partner with operations to transition development programs into efficient, high-rate production while reducing cost and variability.
Develop and execute strategies for supply chain expansion, resilience, and alignment with advanced propulsion technologies.
Lead technical strategy, customer engagement, and proposal development to grow business and position Voyager as a leader in propulsion and manufacturing innovation.
