About The Position

The Technical Operations Trainer / Training Program Manager is responsible for developing, managing, and delivering comprehensive training programs that support the operations, maintenance, safety, and administrative processes of QTS regional data center facilities. This role blends hands-on technical instruction with program management to ensure Facilities Operations team members are consistently trained, competent, and compliant—enabling safe, reliable, and efficient data center operations. Training programs are owned at the portfolio level, with shared administrative and delivery responsibilities across a remote training team. Each team member serves as the primary owner for designated programs, while collaboratively administering and delivering all programs regionally to support consistent execution and local operational needs.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years experience in operations and maintenance in a critical environment (data center, nuclear, power generation, etc.). Data center experience preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of documented instructional experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interface with all levels of the organization
  • Basic project management knowledge
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Basic data entry skills

Nice To Haves

  • 3 years experience in creating/delivering technical instruction experience.
  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering, information technology, or a related field.
  • Certifications in training, facility management, or related areas.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary portfolio-wide owner for assigned training programs, including curriculum standards, training materials, governance, maintenance cycles, and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with the remote training team to administer and deliver portfolio-owned programs regionally, ensuring consistent learner experience while accounting for local operational needs.
  • Partner with Facilities Operations leadership across regions to assess training needs, identify skill gaps, and build training plans that support operational goals, safety, and compliance requirements.
  • Maintain program documentation, version control, and release communications to ensure training content is current and consistently deployed.
  • Develop and maintain effective training materials related to the operation, maintenance, safety, and emergency procedures of data center facilities and support functions.
  • Create and update content covering key critical-environment topics including (but not limited to): Electrical and mechanical systems Telecommunications/connectivity Fire protection/life safety Environmental controls Security, safety, and emergency response
  • Translate complex technical information into clear, learner-centered materials that support different learning styles and experience levels.
  • Deliver instruction using a blend of classroom-based learning, virtual sessions, and hands-on practical training to familiarize technicians with equipment, programs, and procedures.
  • Utilize digital resources and platforms (e.g., LMS, Microsoft Teams) to support and scale training delivery, reinforcement, and learner communications.
  • Foster a supportive learning environment that promotes engagement, psychological safety, and active participation.
  • Conduct ongoing evaluation and improvement efforts, including independent and collaborative reviews of training content and delivery effectiveness.
  • Collect, analyze, and act on learner feedback and stakeholder input to improve training programs, materials, and facilitation.
  • Monitor training outcomes and identify recurring performance gaps or operational trends that may require new training, refreshers, job aids, or process reinforcement.
  • Track, schedule, and manage staff certification and renewal requirements; maintain accurate training and certification records.
  • Prepare regular reports and updates on training activities, completion rates, certification status, and key risks/areas for improvement.
  • Regularly review and update training programs to reflect changes in technology, processes, equipment, and compliance requirements.
  • Maintain a high level of knowledge in data center facilities operations and QTS processes.
  • Travel up to 35% to support regional training and stakeholder engagement.
  • Perform other tasks as required to support Facilities Operations training effectiveness and readiness.
