About The Position

Technical Officer, Neglected Tropical Diseases Join us and be part of advancing disease elimination in the Americas The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), Regional Office for the Americas of the World Health Organization (WHO), is seeking a motivated, technically strong, and results‑oriented Technical Officer, Neglected Tropical Diseases to support Member States in the prevention, control, and elimination of priority neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) in the Region of the Americas. Under the general supervision of the Director, Department of Communicable Diseases Prevention, Control and Elimination (CDE), and the direct supervision of the Advisor, Neglected Infectious Diseases, the selected candidate will contribute to regional and country efforts aimed at achieving elimination targets for neglected tropical diseases by 2030. The incumbent will: Provide technical cooperation to Member States in the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of strategies, plans, and programs for the prevention, control, and elimination of neglected tropical diseases. Support the planning and implementation of integrated national action plans, including mass drug administration campaigns, surveillance activities, and transmission assessment surveys. Collaborate in the preparation of technical documents, guidelines, advocacy materials, progress reports, and situation analyses related to neglected tropical diseases. Strengthen inter‑programmatic and inter‑sectoral collaboration within PAHO and with external partners to enhance sustainable and cost‑effective disease elimination efforts. Contribute to capacity‑building activities, including training workshops, regional forums, and virtual collaboration platforms. Support research, knowledge generation, and dissemination through scientific articles, policy documents, and technical reports. Requirements

  • A university degree in a health science related to the functions of the post from a recognized university.
  • Seven years of combined national and international experience working in epidemiology and public health and in the implementation of NTD health projects or health research and data analysis.
  • Very good knowledge of English or Spanish with working knowledge of the other language.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively use a computer and utilize software programs such as Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint and Outlook.
  • Proficiency with software for mapping, GIS and/or statistical analysis software is required.
  • Theoretical and practical knowledge of epidemiology and public health approaches for the control and elimination of neglected tropical diseases.
  • Ability to plan, implement, monitor, and evaluate public health programs and projects at national and regional levels.
  • Experience in data collection, analysis, interpretation, and use of epidemiological information for decision‑making.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and project management skills.
  • Ability to draft high‑quality technical documents, reports, and scientific or policy‑oriented materials.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary and multicultural environments.

Nice To Haves

  • A master’s degree in public health or epidemiology, with emphasis on neglected tropical diseases would be an asset.
  • Experience in Neglected Tropical Diseases surveillance, prevention, control and elimination in Latin America and the Caribbean would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of Portuguese and/or French would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of other software programs such as SAS, SPSS, Epidat, Epinfo, Stata, and Tableau will be an asset.
