About The Position

Technical Officer, Arboviral Diseases Surveillance Join us and contribute to strengthening public health surveillance across the Americas The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), Regional Office for the Americas of the World Health Organization (WHO), is seeking a motivated, analytical, and results‑oriented Technical Officer, Arboviral Diseases Surveillance to support and strengthen surveillance systems for arboviral diseases in the Region of the Americas. This position plays a key role in advancing evidence‑based decision‑making through high‑quality data management, analysis, and visualization. Under the general supervision of the Director, Department of Communicable Diseases Prevention, Control and Elimination, and the direct supervision of the Chief, Arboviral Diseases Special Program, the selected candidate will: Support the implementation of technical cooperation activities to strengthen arboviral disease surveillance and control in the Region of the Americas. Design, develop, and maintain data infrastructure to facilitate analysis, reporting, and dissemination of arboviral disease data. Manage, update, and monitor epidemiological data, ensuring accuracy, quality, and security. Develop automated tools and processes for data collection, transformation, analysis, and visualization to support public health decision‑making. Collaborate with internal teams and country counterparts to integrate new technologies and improve surveillance systems and data standards. Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in computer science or any other field related to the functions of the position from a recognized university.
  • Five years of combined national and international experience in data management and development of health information systems.
  • Very good knowledge of English or Spanish with working knowledge of the other language.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively utilize software programs and knowledge of relevant electronic systems and/or platforms for information systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to program in python, manage SQL databases, as well as proficiency in Excel, Access, Tableau, SharePoint and PowerBI.
  • Expertise in arboviral disease surveillance data management and analysis.
  • Ability to design and maintain data infrastructures and information systems.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and quantitative skills.
  • Ability to analyze, interpret, and organize large volumes of epidemiological data.
  • Experience developing automated data processing and visualization tools.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to translate complex technical concepts for non‑technical audiences.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities and deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • Specific training in epidemiology or analysis of health data from a recognized institution.
  • Knowledge of Portuguese and/or French would be an asset.
