The Technical Manager is a trusted, senior level position in the mill that is responsible for: Mill Product Quality Management, Quality Management Systems and ISO Certification/Compliance, Coaching/Mentoring Entry Level Engineers as future operations leaders, Providing Technical Resources for the Entire Mill, including oversight of the Co-Op program. This position is responsible for developing and managing a technically comprehensive quality program for a fully integrated paper mill.

  • Work with Operations to ensure finished products meet customer expectations, all products are produced and shipped as scheduled, and that quality issues in all departments are addressed.
  • Coach and train employees to understand and comply with the mill quality system.
  • Develop team and proactively seek out opportunities for millwide problem solving, product improvement trials, chemical trials, etc.
  • Direct and manage activities of the Technical department consistent with the mill's and company's goals and objectives.
  • Establish and execute departmental objectives, priorities, and strategies.
  • Provide both technical and managerial leadership for the department and the mill.
  • Responsible for customer relationship development and complaint follow-up.
  • Responsible for mill QMS, quality control and product improvement activities for the mill.
  • Develop and implement quality programs, including RTT (Run-To-Target), center-lining, statistical process control, etc.
  • Managing all testing labs to ensure optimal utilization of personnel.
  • Serve as liaison with all production units to achieve optimal quality and work as part of a team with operating departments.
  • Serves as a member of the mill Lead Team in setting both strategy and policy.
  • Serve as a behavioral change agent responsible for promoting mill culture, including commitment to quality, and organizational effectiveness among all employee groups at this site.
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering and/or Pulp and Paper Science or the equivalent of 10 - 15 years of pulp and paper industry experience.
  • Must possess in-depth understanding of pulp and paper production.
  • Should have prior experience in Total Quality Management/Continuous Improvement or Lean manufacturing.
  • Must possess skills in data analysis and trending.
  • Drive and excellent work ethic.
  • Able to stand alone, while carefully considering the input and suggestions of others.
  • Ability to promote and lead safety awareness.
  • Strong interpersonal, team and leadership skills.
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to work with all levels of the organization.
  • Must be capable of effective multi-tasking.
