About The Position

The Manager of Reliability and Engineering is a critical leadership role within the Manufacturing Network of Excellence, responsible for developing and implementing strategies to optimize equipment reliability and maintenance effectiveness. This encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, including managing stockrooms efficiently, supporting Autonomous Maintenance (AM) programs, minimizing breakdowns, enhancing planning and scheduling, controlling maintenance costs, implementing predictive maintenance technologies, and improving the overall performance of the maintenance organization. This role will champion a culture of continuous improvement and accountability within the maintenance teams, driving best practices and ensuring alignment with overall business objectives. The Sr. Manager will also oversee the development and implementation of technical training programs to upskill the maintenance workforce.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in a technical field (Engineering, Industrial Technology, Manufacturing Engineering Technology, Automation, etc.) strongly preferred; equivalent experience and relevant certifications will be considered
  • Experience: 8-10 years of experience in a technical capacity within a manufacturing environment, with a proven track record of successfully leading and developing technical teams
  • Leadership: Proven leadership experience in managing and developing high-performing maintenance teams
  • Job-Specific Experience/Skills: Extensive knowledge of packaging equipment operation and reliability-centered maintenance (RCM); experience with PLC programming, machine analysis, and root cause analysis; strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills; demonstrated ability prioritize, delegate, and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to work in a manufacturing environment, which may include exposure to noise, moving machinery, and varying temperatures; ability to stand, walk, and climb stairs for extended periods of time; ability to life up to 50 pounds occasionally.

Nice To Haves

  • Industry Certifications: Relevant certifications such as Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional (CMRP), Certified Manufacturing Engineer (CMfgE), Six Sigma certifications (Green Belt, Black Belt), or certifications related to specific packaging equipment or technologies (e.g. PLC programming certifications from Rockwell Automation, Siemens, etc.)
  • Experience with Specific Packaging Technologies: Demonstrated experience with specific packaging technologies relevant to cosmetics operations (e.g. Bottle Loaders, Fillers, Cappers, Labeling Equipment, Cartoning Machines, Bundlers, etc.)
  • Experience in a Regulated Industry: Experience working in a regulated environment (e.g., FDA, GMP) with knowledge of relevant regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Project Management Experience: Proven ability to manage complex technical projects, including planning, budgeting, execution, and reporting.
  • Lean Manufacturing/Continuous Improvement Expertise: Demonstrated experience implementing Lean Manufacturing principles and leading continuous improvement initiatives in a manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Reliability Engineering: Lead the implementation of reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) principles and practices to improve equipment uptime, reduce maintenance costs, and optimize asset lifecycle management. This includes conducting Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and developing proactive maintenance strategies
  • Stockroom Management: Oversee the efficient and effective management of maintenance stockrooms, ensuring optimal inventory levels, streamlines procurement processes, accurate record-keeping, and robust inventory control systems.
  • Autonomous Maintenance (AM) Support: Provide leadership and support to Autonomous Maintenance (AM) initiatives, empowering production teams to take ownership of basic maintenance tasks and contribute to improved equipment performance and reliability.
  • Breakdown Elimination: Lead efforts to analyze breakdown data, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions to minimize equipment downtime and improve overall operational efficiency. This includes developing and implementing proactive maintenance strategies to prevent future breakdowns.
  • Planning and Scheduling: Optimize maintenance planning and scheduling processes to maximize wrench time, minimize disruption to production, and ensure efficient resource allocation. This includes implementing best practices for work order management, scheduling, and resource leveling.
  • Maintenance Cost Control: Develop and manage the maintenance budget, tracking expenses, identifying cost-saving opportunities, and implementing strategies to optimize maintenance spending without compromising equipment reliability.
  • Predictive Maintenance: Lead the implementation of predictive maintenance technologies, such as vibration analysis, thermography, and oil analysis, to identify potential equipment failures before they occur, enabling proactive maintenance interventions and minimizing downtime.
  • Maintenance Organization Development: Continuously evaluate and improve the structure and effectiveness of the maintenance organization, ensuring clear roles and responsibilities, efficient communication channels, and optimal resource allocation.
  • Mechanic Accountability: Foster a culture of accountability within the maintenance team, setting clear performance expectations, providing regular feedback, and implementing performance management systems to drive continuous improvement.
  • Technical Training: Develop and implement comprehensive technical training programs for maintenance personnel, ensuring they possess the necessary skills and knowledge to main equipment effectively and contribute to the overall success of the maintenance organization. This includes staying abreast of industry best practices and emerging technologies.
