About The Position

St. Louis, Missouri-based EVNTIV, an innovative event planning and entertainment agency is looking for a Technical Manager with 4+ years experience in managing audio / visual and scenic elements for events, meetings and entertainment programs. The Technical Manager is responsible for the management of Audio/Visual (A/V) elements for a wide range of events taking place in St. Louis, Missouri, and around the world. This position reports to the Technical Director and requires collaboration with Evntiv leadership, the sales team, and Project Managers to design, specify, order, and manage A/V elements.

Requirements

  • 1+ years of related experience in the event production or entertainment industry, or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and internet research.
  • Experience with CAD programs, specifically Vectorworks and Microsoft Visio.
  • Must be detail-oriented and possess exceptional organizational skills.
  • Willingness to work independently and manage a team of professionals.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment and competently handle demanding deadlines.
  • Excellent customer service and problem-solving skills; exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret general business contracts, as well as proficiently write reports and business correspondence.
  • Innovative problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Proficiency in budgetary management, including participation in budget meetings and the ability to discuss changes that impact the bottom line for the client and employer.
  • Must be able to excel without constant supervision; willingness to learn and develop new skills.
  • Strong work ethic, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude are required.
  • Must be able to stand on their feet for more than 10 hours at a time and physically perform the duties described in this job description
  • Must be willing and able to work nights and weekends for events. This is not a typical “9 am to 5 pm” job; hours are project-based.
  • Some travel will be required.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a background check.

Responsibilities

  • Work with internal Project Managers to determine the specific equipment specifications needed to create successful event designs.
  • Draft room diagrams with A/V elements using CAD, Visio, or Vectorworks.
  • Coordinate event supplies and shipments.
  • Coordinate the design, construction, and installation of sets.
  • Confirm that the equipment and technical placements will meet the client’s needs.
  • Manage the bid and contracting process with A/V vendors.
  • Manage A/V costs as dictated by project budgets; actively seek out cost savings and efficiencies in quotes.
  • Report changes and fluctuations in pricing to Project Managers throughout the life of a project.
  • Understand and work within union labor guidelines (IATSE, IBEW, Decorators, Teamsters, etc.).
  • Interface with venue managers regarding A/V designs and venue capabilities; conduct venue research and advance technical specifications.
  • Develop and maintain high-level relationships with vendors and suppliers.
  • Create technical specification sheets based on project requirements for vendors; assemble and distribute project documents to crew members.
  • Manage day-to-day needs for multiple on-going projects.
  • Collect and review invoices from vendors.
  • Advance event details with performers and performer management.
  • Work on-site at events to oversee technical elements.
  • Assist the Technical Director in all other tasks as assigned.
