About The Position

The Instrumentation Technical Leader provides technical guidance/oversight and has responsibility/ownership for gas turbine, steam turbine, generator, and plant accessory systems wiring, interfaces, and hardware for the Instrumentation and Controls team within Plant Systems and Steam Cycle / Mechanical CoE (PSSC / Mech CoE) Engineering. The Technical Leader will develop and establish processes and provide technical mentorship to ensure adequate design rigor for engineering team design scope. This leader also serves as the team’s tactical focal point, ensuring excellence with analysis, design studies, drawings, specifications, bills of material, and customer technical issue resolution for electrical equipment and systems. This position enables growth in technical breadth, strengthening of project management skills and operations, and exposure to coaching and mentoring other engineers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science/Technology in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or Mechanical Engineering (BSME)
  • 7 years of design experience in Instrumentation/Electrical/Controls with Strong knowledge of wiring diagrams and P&IDs
  • 7 years of electrical and instrumentation technical knowledge and ability to perform engineering design for new product programs, new projects, and support of fleet issue resolutions.

  • Significant operational leadership experience
  • Knowledge of Lean methodology to be applied for continuous improvement and KPI based management
  • Significant experience in power plant electrical systems/equipment engineering
  • Strong technical expertise and significant design engineering experience in electrical systems and instrumentation components
  • Strong understanding of GE core technologies: GT-, ST-, Generator Accessories, and overall plant systems
  • Solid interpersonal skills; Self-motivated proficient with Plant Systems and Steam Cycle processes and tools
  • Working knowledge of electrical codes and standards (IEC, NEC, ATEX, etc)
  • Customer-centric and team-focused
  • Ability to mentor team members in both technical and soft skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Current GE applicants must have a satisfactory performance standing at minimum
  • Based on headcount approval- candidates from the current GM organization will be considered

Responsibilities

  • Motivate and grow engineering talent while creating a safe, inclusive, and inspirational workplace
  • Apply Daily Management methods to coordinate the work within the assigned scope to ensure proper quality level and on time delivery.
  • Design and specify the devices that monitor the flow, pressure, temperature, flame detection, rotor vibration, and speed
  • Drive a Systems approach by partnering with adjacent organizations/stakeholders such as Project Engineering, Controls, Generator Electrical, and Sourcing
  • Provide continuous improvement and operational leadership as single point of contact for all inquiries, questions, and communication for instrumentation scope
  • Drive lessons learned back into standards to avoid repeat issues
  • Provide in-depth technical reviews of customer deliverables, as applicable
  • Mitigate engineering schedule issues and take preventative action to avoid schedule delays or late deliverables
  • Deliver operational commitments and key process indicator targets
  • Improve quality, delivery, and cost of GE products within team’s scope
  • Implement lean methodologies including standard work, standard product, and kaizen
