About This Role Carrier Corporation’s Air Management Systems (AMS) team in Syracuse, NY, is seeking a qualified engineer to oversee technical management of our global sourced fan and fan motor portfolio. This position will lead a team of fan and motor engineers within Carrier's Center of Excellence organization that is responsible for a range of technical activities pertaining to sourced fans and fan motors which are purchased by our global Business Unit (BU) entities. The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of fan and motor technology, sizing, and application. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required to support detailed discussions and planning with both internal BU partners and external vendors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
  • 5+ years of experience working with fans, motors, rotating machinery, or electromechanical components.
  • Ability to travel 5-10% (including internationally and domestically).
  • Strong communication and supplier-facing skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities across a global organization.
  • Ability to manage moderately-sized team of engineering professionals.
  • Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Collaborative, detail-oriented, and proactive.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience leading an engineering team.
  • Experience with supplier management or purchased component engineering preferred.
  • Strong understanding of fan and motor technologies (AC/DC motors, BLDC, centrifugal/axial fans, controls).
  • Ability to apply fan scaling laws and working knowledge of fan application principles.
  • Knowledge of performance characterization: airflow curves, efficiency, torque/speed curves, vibration, acoustics.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and 3D models.

Responsibilities

  • Technical Oversight & Engineering Support Support global module and platforming initiatives by continuously evaluating portfolio of sourced fans/motors for complexity reduction opportunities.
  • Evaluate vendor and competitive fan and fan motor technology landscape for opportunities and threats.
  • Work with BU partners to develop and maintain technical specifications, performance requirements, and acceptance criteria for purchased fans and fan motors.
  • Provide expert guidance to internal engineering teams regarding fan and fan motor selection, application suitability, and integration.
  • Conduct root-cause analyses and lead resolution of technical issues related to fan/motor performance, quality, or reliability.
  • Review and approve vendor drawings, test reports, material selections, and design documentation.
  • Supplier Management & Collaboration Serve as the primary technical point of contact for fan and fan motor suppliers, ensuring clear communication of requirements and expectations.
  • Support supplier qualification, audits, and capability assessments.
  • Review engineering change proposals and assess impact on performance, safety, and system compatibility.
  • Collaborate with Carrier Supply Chain colleagues to support supplier discussions from technical perspective.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration Work with product design teams to ensure purchased fans/motors align with system-level requirements (thermal, acoustic, mechanical, electrical).
  • Support sourcing and procurement in supplier selection, cost optimization, and contract negotiations through technical input.
  • Partner with Quality Engineering to address non-conformances and implement corrective actions.
  • Documentation & Knowledge Management Maintain a library of approved fans/motors, performance data, and qualification records.
  • Create and update engineering standards, best practices, and design guidelines.
