The Permissions Management BE team is at the heart of how customers interact safely and effectively with the HubSpot platform. Our mission? To own, define, and assign permissions on customer portals, for both internal and external users, across every corner of HubSpot. The impact goes out to every engineer and every customer. Right now, we're a close-knit team of 3 who collaborate, mentor, and deliver together.

Requirements

• Strong senior backend engineer with Java experience required.
• Formal leadership experience on smaller teams, especially in critical or challenging systems.
• Ability to take ownership, work collaboratively, and figure things out in a fast-moving environment.
• Consistently ships reliable, performant, well-tested code.
• Thirst for technical challenges and distributed systems.
• Ability to foster autonomy, psychological safety, and learning on teams.
• Enjoys mentoring and coaching, and is open to learning from others.
• Customer-centric mindset, shaping insights that help improve the HubSpot platform.
• Excited by the chance to impact all of HubSpot's engineers and set the standard on a tier 1, business-critical system.

Responsibilities

• Own and deliver backend projects, leading by example with hands-on Java development.
• Mentor teammates and foster a positive, inclusive, and learning-first environment.
• Work cross-functionally with engineering and product partners across HubSpot.
• Design, build, and support performant, secure, and scalable systems.
• Drive quality in everything we ship, from planning and design through testing and deployment.

• Annual Cash Compensation Range: $165,500-$248,300 USD.
