About The Position

We are seeking a Tech Lead Manager to spearhead the evolution of Stretch’s flagship application: autonomous trailer unloading. You will be solving one of the most physically demanding and labor-intensive problems in the global supply chain. This role is a hybrid of people management and technical leadership, where you will manage a multidisciplinary team of software engineers. You will be responsible for a dual-track mission: driving the development of next-generation features (advanced manipulation, expanded operating domain) and maintaining customer experience and throughput for our rapidly growing fleet of global customers. To thrive in this role, you’ll need to be data-obsessed and customer centric. You’ll need to enjoy integration and the "puzzle" of making software work together seamlessly on a complex hardware platform. You are technically mature, know when to act scrappy to validate designs or answer questions, and when to build carefully to ensure we are building a shippable, scalable system. You are an organized and thoughtful technical communicator, capable of aligning within your own team and across contributing peer teams, and are skilled at team building and motivation.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience developing software in a professional environment
  • 3+ years of experience in a Technical Lead or Managerial role.
  • Strong proficiency in C++ within a Linux environment.
  • Familiarity with robotics middleware frameworks (e.g. ROS) and real-time operating systems.
  • Technical expertise in Robotic manipulation, behavior and task planning abstractions (behavior trees, FSMs, etc)
  • Demonstrated track record of taking a product from early-stage to at-scale commercial deployment, especially in warehouse automation or logistics
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Robotics, or a related field

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with safety-critical systems and relevant standards a plus

Responsibilities

  • High-Level Autonomy: Design and maintain high-level task planning and decision-making for unloading trailers. Build robust sequencing that allows the robot to pick from varied environments and freight configurations, and autonomously recover from common faults.
  • Warehouse and workflow integration: Define interfaces and interactions with external systems like conveyors, safety systems, downstream sorters. Champion a smooth and flexible deployment and install process.
  • Obsess over KPI’s: Define, refine, and track the metrics that matter, use data to prioritize the engineering backlog. Constantly look for opportunities to reduce cycle times and interventions.
  • Work closely with the Customer Success and Field Applications teams to triage site-specific issues, ensuring existing deployments exceed customer expectations.
  • Work closely with product management to translate field data and customer feedback into concrete technical requirements for the robotics and platform teams.
  • Manage a team of 5–8 engineers, providing career coaching, performance management, and technical mentorship. Ensure the team's success by removing roadblocks, defining concrete milestones, clarifying requirements, establishing processes and tools, and building a collaborative working environment.
