Technical Lead – AI & Data Science

DaVita Kidney CareDenver, CO
Hybrid

About The Position

The Technical Lead is a critical hybrid role responsible for driving the technical delivery of high-impact AI and Data Intelligence initiatives. This position requires a "player-coach" mindset: you will provide high-level architectural and technical guidance and oversight across multiple concurrent projects while remaining deeply hands-on—writing code, building pipelines, and solving complex technical challenges alongside the team. You will serve as the technical anchor for the team, ensuring that solutions and products are scalable, secure, and aligned with DaVita’s reference architecture on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). The Information Technology Department designs, develops and maintains software programs required to keep DaVita on the leading edge of medical technology. DaVita's Information Technology Department has both clinic facing and non-clinic facing subgroups that provide our clinician teammates the tools to provide quality patient care. DaVita IT utilizes designers, developers, system architects, project managers, application architects, nurses, trainers and many more professionals to incorporate the technology needs of our clinicians, business and physician customers. Join us as we pursue our vision "To Build the Greatest Healthcare Community the World has Ever Seen."

Requirements

  • Deep expertise in Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services, specifically Vertex AI, BigQuery, Cloud Composer (Airflow), Cloud Run, GKE (Kubernetes), and Cloud Storage.
  • Advanced proficiency in Python (for AI/Data) and SQL.
  • Experience with Vertex AI, LLM orchestration (LangChain/etc.), and MLOps practices (model monitoring, feature stores, automated retraining).
  • Hands-on experience with GitLab CI/CD, Docker, and Terraform.
  • 7+ years of progressively responsible experience in software engineering or related areas, with at least 2+ years in a Technical Lead or Principal Engineer capacity.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent practical experience).

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the technical execution of multiple workstreams simultaneously (e.g., AI/ML product development and deployment, data pipeline modernization, and GenAI pilots). Ensure technical decisions align with project timelines and business value.
  • Define and validate system architectures for AI applications, ensuring they meet non-functional requirements (scalability, reliability, security). Lead technical design reviews and approve solution patterns (e.g., RAG architectures, Event-driven pipelines).
  • Mentor Senior Developers, Data Scientists, and Engineers. Conduct code reviews to ensure best practices in software engineering, CI/CD, and testing are followed.
  • Partner with Product Managers and Business Stakeholders to translate complex business requirements into technical specifications and roadmaps.
  • Actively contribute code to critical paths of the project. Develop and maintain robust data pipelines, API services, etc.
  • Operationalize machine learning models using Vertex AI, building automated pipelines, and integrating models into clinical workflows (e.g., within CWOW or OneView).
  • Dive into code to resolve critical production issues ("fire-fighting") and perform root cause analysis for complex incidents.
