About The Position

In this position, you will participate in BAE Systems' nationwide LEAP Internship & Co-op Program, where you will Learn, Engage, Apply, and Progress within the company. The LEAP Program will provide you with the opportunity to work alongside experienced professionals on impactful projects, engage in career development opportunities, and network with our business leaders and the other students in the program. BAE Systems works with state-of-the-art technologies that will expand your software toolbox in a real-world Software Engineering environment. Your internship may include the opportunity to work with client-based frameworks, cloud and container-infrastructure, database, and embedded systems. The Enterprise Assurance Strategic Capabilities Unit delivers critical assurance disciplines that protect and enable people, data and missions. We provide a comprehensive approach to managing risk across the enterprise for current and future information environments where the business and missions execute. We apply the use of innovative tools and robust processes to ensure mission and business success.

Requirements

  • Must have completed your sophomore or junior year and be enrolled in a degree program for the fall of 2026.
  • Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • Currently enrolled in an accredited degree program (Bachelor's or Master's) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Cybersecurity, or a related technical field.
  • Strong interest in cybersecurity and a passion for learning about software security concepts.
  • Familiarity with at least one programming language, such as Python, Java, or C++.
  • Knowledge of core computer science concepts, including networking and operating systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of secure coding principles and common application vulnerabilities (e.g., OWASP Top 10).
  • Experience with a version control system like Git.
  • Coursework or hands-on experience with ethical hacking, penetration testing, or digital forensics.
  • Familiarity with cloud security concepts (e.g., AWS, Azure).

Responsibilities

  • Help build and maintain secure, high-quality software.
  • Gain hands-on experience in the software development lifecycle (SDLC) by applying cybersecurity best practices.
  • Assist in finding and fixing security flaws and automating security operations, contributing to a stronger security posture for our products and infrastructure.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company.
  • Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.
