About The Position

Sterling Technologies is a leader in high-quality electrical solutions, specializing in the design and fabrication of complex wire harnesses and industrial control panels. We pride ourselves on precision, reliability, and our ability to turn complex schematics into reality. We are looking for a detail-oriented Estimator to join our team and bridge the gap between engineering blueprints and final production costs. As an Estimator, you aren't just "crunching numbers." You are the strategic hub where engineering meets finance. You will analyze technical drawings and Bill of Materials (BOMs) to provide accurate cost assessments for labor, materials, and overhead. Your accuracy ensures our projects are profitable and our bids are competitive. At Sterling Technologies, we value accuracy over "guesstimates." You will be part of a collaborative environment where your input directly affects the company's growth. We offer competitive benefits, opportunities for professional development, and a culture that respects the technical expertise you bring to the table.

Requirements

  • Experience: 3+ years in estimating or production within the electrical manufacturing industry (specific experience with wire harnesses or UL 508A control panels is a major plus).
  • Technical Literacy: Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.
  • Software Proficiency: Advanced Excel skills and experience with ERP/MRP software.
  • Analytical Mindset: A "detective-like" approach to finding hidden costs and optimizing material usage.
  • Communication: Ability to explain technical cost drivers to both the sales team and the customer.

Nice To Haves

  • Technician or Engineering Background
  • Familiarity with IPC-A-620 standards.
  • Experience with CAD software (AutoCAD Electrical or SolidWorks).

Responsibilities

  • Technical Analysis: Review customer RFQs (Request for Quotes), 2D/3D drawings, and electrical schematics for wire harnesses and control panels.
  • Material Sourcing: Identify required components (connectors, terminals, PLCs, enclosures, etc.) and coordinate with vendors to obtain the best pricing.
  • Labor Estimation: Calculate production time based on complexity, including cutting, crimping, assembly, and testing phases.
  • BOM Development: Create and maintain detailed Bills of Materials in our ERP system.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with the Engineering team to suggest "Design for Manufacturability" (DFM) improvements that could reduce costs.
  • Risk Assessment: Identify potential supply chain hurdles or technical challenges that might impact project timelines or budgets.

Benefits

  • 401(k)
  • Health insurance
  • Paid time off
  • Vision insurance
  • Healthcare: Comprehensive Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance.
  • Retirement: 401(k) with company matching (e.g., 100% match on the first 3-4%).
  • Paid Time Off: 3 weeks of PTO plus 8–10 paid holidays.
  • Professional Development: Tuition reimbursement for certifications (like PMP or advanced Electrical Engineering courses).
