Job Summary The Writing and Editing department (Technical Publications) within the Corporate Affairs and Communications division provides technical editing and formatting of reports and journal publications. As the Technical Editing Specialist II, you will support Aerospace authors to ensure successful delivery of technical reports to government customers and other stakeholders. Responsibilities include providing direct-charge support to internal authors on technical deliverables best practices, facilitating the AeroReports process when required, reviewing documents for spelling, grammar, punctuation, consistency, and content issues while ensuring that documents follow the organization’s style guide. In addition, ad hoc support to general division needs, such as occasional content development, proofreading, etc. is to be expected. The selected candidate will be required to work full-time on-site at our facility in El Segundo, CA.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, or a related discipline is required
  • A minimum of ( 3) or more years of increasingly responsible and relevant professional experience is required
  • Proven expertise in spelling, punctuation, grammar, and style guides, with a focus on Chicago Manual of Style and AP Style
  • Proficient with technical editing procedures (ability to quickly learn and retain information for process, requirements, etc.)
  • Familiarity with advanced MS Office features for Word, PowerPoint, Excel (document formatting, templates, restrictions, etc.)
  • Ability to work under deadline and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Attention to detail and consistency across an entire project and the ability to follow through
  • Needs to express ideas logically, clearly and concisely
  • Proficient in Adobe applications (primarily Acrobat, Illustrator and Photoshop, are a strong plus)
  • U.S. citizenship is required to work on certain sensitive but unclassified documents, although a security clearance is not required

Nice To Haves

  • Project management experience is preferred
  • Prior experience working with government/DOD programs and related document markings
  • Section 508 compliance formatting skill a plus
  • Experience with AI-assisted editing tools
  • A current and active Secret security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government, is strongly preferred.
  • U.S. citizenship is to obtain a security clearance

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct-charge support for technical editing and formatting of reports and journal publications.
  • Checks documents for spelling, grammar, punctuation, consistency, and content problems.
  • Ensures that documents follow the organization’s style guide
  • Proofreads and edits technical copy to ensure consistency, cohesiveness, grammatical accuracy, readability, and compliance with security and contractual requirements
  • Refines and organizes document input; edits and proofreads text, artwork, tables, graphs, and mathematical materials
  • Plans and coordinates preparation of illustrative material, reproduction, and other publications services
  • Advises authors/requestors of the preparation, development, approval, and scheduling of technical and administrative material for internal or external publication
  • Prepares cost estimates and project work orders
