Felsburg Holt & Ullevig (FHU) is seeking a mid-level Technical Editor to join their Marketing and Creative Communications team. This role involves reviewing, editing, formatting, and enhancing technical documents to ensure high-quality deliverables. The Technical Editor will collaborate with project managers, engineers, planners, and scientists to produce various technical documents while maintaining compliance with industry standards and company guidelines. This is a hybrid position based in Denver, CO, allowing for remote work two days a week.

  • Perform substantive editorial reviews of technical documents and marketing materials for correctness, organization, clarity, voice, verb tense, consistency, grammar, and conformity with style guidelines.
  • Format technical documents, including figures, tables, cross-references, appendices, and tables of contents.
  • Apply plain language principles to ensure materials are easy to read and understand.
  • Create Section 508 compliant documents and review documents for compliance.
  • Ensure consistency in terminology, style, and format across all project-related documentation.
  • Collaborate with engineers and subject matter experts to communicate complex technical concepts effectively.
  • Maintain and update document templates, style guides, and reference materials.
  • Manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks to meet client deadlines and expectations for quality and accuracy.
  • Bachelor's degree in English, Technical Communications, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in technical editing, preferably within the engineering industry.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and under tight deadlines.
  • Understanding of technical terminology and the ability to interpret and summarize engineering documents.
  • Intermediate level skills in Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Experience in print design and layout is helpful.
  • Knowledge of Section 508 and WCAG compliance.
  • Familiarity with style guides such as the Chicago Manual of Style, AP, or similar.
  • Experience using Common Look tools helpful.
