The technical director will serve the role as an advisor and determine target areas for growth and optimization that best aligns with service members and others operating in extreme environments, including pilots and astronauts. This role directs one or more major functional areas of a department, a department, or a business unit. It involves managing two or more professional and support staff including subordinate managers, with more discretion and greater financial authority than lower management levels. The director will direct the analysis, planning, implementation, and expenditures and budget tracking of major operational projects or initiatives. They will provide recommendations to the leaders throughout the organization and lead in developing strategies and implementation plans to improve and standardize all aspects of operations. Collaboration with department/business unit leadership is essential to support the budget process and meet key operational goals. The director will also establish department policies and procedures and serve as the primary liaison for the department, managing and influencing relationships with senior management team, administrators, functional area managers, and staff to achieve best in practice performance and business results.
