About The Position

SmartFlower Solar is a Boston-based global solar energy solutions company known for its innovative, patented solar-generating technology. Through advanced design, manufacturing, installation, and service capabilities, we deliver game-changing solar solutions for both commercial and institutional markets. We are seeking an experienced Technical Director to lead our product development, manufacturing, and global service operations. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a high-impact renewable energy product with a worldwide presence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering (BSME preferred).
  • Minimum of 10 years of engineering and management experience within solar energy, or related electro-mechanical industries.
  • At least 5 years of supervisory experience with increasing responsibility.
  • Experience managing global regulatory certifications (UL, IEC, CE).
  • Ability to independently manage multiple projects, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines while maintaining a high standard of professionalism and quality.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, one-line diagrams, equipment submittals, and material data sheets.
  • Ability to set clear expectations and deliver constructive performance feedback.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with solar tracking systems or related electro-mechanical technologies is highly desirable.
  • Experience with Salesforce is a strong plus.
  • Experience working with SolidWorks CAD files.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all engineering initiatives, including new product development and implementation.
  • Drive product reliability and availability improvement programs.
  • Serve as a technical ambassador by providing updates and guidance to the global field service team.
  • Own SmartFlower Solar’s multi-generation product roadmap and implementation schedule.
  • Manage third-party contract manufacturing partners and oversee related quality programs and documentation.
  • Develop and deploy system retrofits and upgrades based on customer feedback, including remote monitoring enhancements.
  • Apply strong understanding of photovoltaic systems, energy/BESS technologies, and solar tracking robotics.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership on strategic business goals and technology direction.
  • Lead global engineering and technical support teams, delegating tasks and managing workflow effectively.
  • Recruit, hire, and train new team members as needed.
  • Deliver biweekly leadership updates.
  • Travel internationally up to 20%.
